I've just found this link and it looks to be quoting from the actual report:- Sunbeds And UV Classed As Definitely Cancer-Causing.
As I suspected it's not just sunbeds, as the press lead us to believe but "sunlamps and sunbeds, and UV radiation" that have been classed as a group 1 carcinogenic. This must mean all things that emit UVR, including the sun and I suppose even UV nail lamps as well as sunbeds are included Even more interestingly the report seems to be based on tests done on mice! Wouldn't it be more informative to do a study of actual human cases? I'm not denying sunbeds can cause cancer, but I do believe that if people are determined to get a real tan, then a properly ran and regulated sunbed shop is the best option. Jes |

There is no doubt though that as a human species we are completely reliant upon exposure to UV..without it were all dead If you look up Dr Holick on Google or UV Advantage | Dr. Hollick > Home and or read his book....wow does that put a different perspective on things...is this yet another controversial issue??? The problem has arisen from greed...greed from the manufacturers producing ever more powerful machines fueled by the consumer who is demanding it ![]() Bagpuss is right...we as an industry have to ensure we are providing safe ,meaningful and beneficial treatments to our customers....the consumer to has as much responsibility to act on the side of caution and not go to excess with the treatments that are on offer...look at Micheal Jackson..not only addicted to pain killer drugs but addicted to plastic surgery.....should this practice now be stopped simply because of his excessive behaviour??? Blimey there are consumers that actually use two or three salons to go on the UV beds ...they do this simply because the salon operator will not allow them to expose themselves any longer with them...so they simply go down the road to the other salon and overdose...it is those customers that are being irresponsible and that then complain they look like a tortoise and that they have skin problems A glass of red wine now and again is great...enjoyable and im told good for you...two bottles a night is going to rot your kidneys and make you beat up your wife From a personal point I love going on a sunbed occasionally during the winter months...not for a tan but for a dose of UV that most certainly makes my tired bones feel so much better..I come out of their happier than when I went in. Of course I would not dream of using a sunbed every other day....its all about excess and self control I also happen to like my toast slightly burnt...that's supposed to be a cancer risk....I still choose to do it but I don't do it to excess...just once in a while works for me
