For some, its long been their ingredient of choice. Model and TV personality Sophie Dahl is said to be an avid user of the Wild Wood Groves argan blends, while in a New York Times article, skincare entrepreneur Liz Earle revealed she was an admirer, saying it was remarkably high in vitamin E and had very interesting phytosterols, which are good for scar tissue and so many other things.
Widely known in its native country for promoting strength, vitality and smoothness to the skin and hair, argan oil is now finding a firm fanbase outside of Morocco. Many believe the challenge has been supply. The argan tree fruit, the source from which the oil is derived, is found in very few regions in the world, meaning limited supply hence the high price and the hype.
The situation, however, is changing, with many beauty experts ready to exploit the oil's health benefits. Nacera Gomes of Diar Argan (pictured), a specialist in the oil, says: Argan is extremely beneficial when used to help fight the signs of ageing and is fast becoming the facial skin care product to buy, offering a host of benefits for even the most sensitive skin, including improving the elasticity of skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and helping to reduce scaring.
