The chain of Boots chemists has agreed to remove gel/acrylic kits and review the safety of these! Allegedly, acrylic kits sold by Boots and Superdrug contain Benzoyl Peroxide and p-Hydroxyanisol (also called Hyroquinone) that are defined by EU Cosmetics Directive as for "Professional Use Only" and illegal to sell to consumers.
Dr. Jason Williams, British Society of Cutaneous Allergies at Salford Royal Hospital "we are seeing a big increase in allergies caused by consumers using home nail kits - one problem is that they buy a kit with colours and a UV lamp, but because they are unaware of the risks, they chose different colours from different systems. They don't understand that you should not mix gel polishes with UV lamps from different brands"
