A recent survey by Remington found that women, on average, spend £8,000 in a lifetime on hair removal. The survey also found that 2% of women would be willing to spend £10,000 on being hair free for life while the majority of the rest would be happy to spend over £700. We spend no less than two whole days a year removing hair (four months over a lifetime) and unsurprisingly, we're most worried about facial hair.
And that's not all. Apparently one in ten women keep their hair removal a secret from their partner (do they think their partners are stupid?) and over half of us aren't entirely honest with our partners about the lengths we go through to remain silky smooth.
Over a quarter of women aged 18-24 said that not being completely fuzz-free would stop them in the tracks in any intimate situation but despite this, the younger generation were the most relaxed when it came to getting rid of hair with only one in ten admitting they are always hair free when they need to be. It was the over 55s that came out on top when it came to removing unwanted hair with one in three saying they always remove unwanted hair, anytime, any place.
The survey, which asked 3,000 women, also revealed a north/south divide with women in Southampton saying they'd be prepared to pay almost double what women in York would be prepared to pay to remove hair for good.
Vicky Williams, marketing director at Remington, said, "Whether it's shaving, waxing or more permanent solutions, hair removal is a cross to bear for most British women. Hair removal is seen as a chore but we hear from women all the time that being fuzz free is crucial to women's confidence."
