Can anyone help .. being a mobile and taking on new clients is always exciting and love the challenges set especially when you are not familiar with the hair that they have ! i had a lady come to me who has always put home dyes on and is a very dark brown artificial tint ! she wanted the cheryl cole red :/ so after seeing a pic i took it upon myself to put a igora 3.88 on with added foils of igora fashion cols 100.88 the colour looked fab but the whole appearance still seemed dark brown with a halo glow of red ..now although she is happy i know she expected the overall colour to look lots redder any suggestions geeks :)

bleach bath...and start again if its really heavily coloured with home dye, that way you have a blank canvas to do as you wish.
:)
xox

Bumping your developer up a notch also creates a more vibrant red.

Thanks Ladies only concern with the bleach bath was drying her hair out a bit and going up a notch with the peroxide i was worried as to whether it would lift the very dark ...thankks for yr help again x

Not over home tints and the red will lose it's vibrancy very quickly.

Igora fashion only really works well on naturally dark hair, they say it lifts tint but the result is always subtle.

For that Cheryl Cole red:

Bleach bath: 1 scoop of powder, 1 scoop of 6%, 1 scoop of warm water.
Massage through until you reach a very orange level 6

Dry off and drench in porosity balancer and dry in.

As it is orange you will not need to pre-pig

Mix 15mls of 6/0 and 30mls of 6/888 and 45mls of 3%. Put in a good squirt of 0/88 OR colour gloss Ruby craze (All Schwartzkopf)

Leave for a full 45 mls and make sure they wash their hair only in BC color save shampoo.

This has never let me down yet. :)

will definately try it then thankyou makes you feel more confident when you know someone else has tried it lol x:)

Did the igora lift the box dye?

I had same situation, but client was a about base 3 from box colours, did the bleach bath same mix as sophisticutz left it on 30mins rubbing it in and everything didn't touch it, washed it off and did the bleach bath again with 9% for another 30mins and still made hardly any difference, she only wanted to be about a base 5 at the lightest, i put wella colour touch 55/65 on after but didn't look very red at all as it was still so dark, any suggestions please??

Did you mix your bleach bath the same as mine? Sometimes if the peroxide level is too high it can prevent the colour from lifting out. Lowest and slowest is the best way. I always leave a bleach bath on up to 50 mins.

Any tone you wish to impart is going to be un-noticable under the level 4(-ish give or take dep. on your line). You have to strip the box off, and if the hair is healthy, use non buffered, weak bleach. Leave the shampoo, water etc. out and just watch it closely. If a bleach bath didnt do it, you have to go stronger, plain and simple.

The igora did leave colour just not how i expected although the lady was happy i felt theri was room for improvement ...i went into sallys today and asked for porosity balancer and they just looked at me haha what am i looking for ?

just looked back at some of the advice if i had`ve upped the vol to 9% would the tint doesnt lift tint apply to it ?

You are better to phone Schwartzkopf direct for this product. Wholesalers are useless!

You wouldn't have made that red brighter by using 9% over tint. If you need to use more than 6% with a red (aside from specialist ranges i.e Igora fashion), then you are requiring too much from it and need to think of an alternative method to get a brighter red.

yes sophisticutz i used the same mix as you, just it honestly didn't touch it with 6% lifted a tiny tiny bit with 9% i think it's just got that much build up, think i will have to try just bleach and peroxide, don't no what else to do... i thought maybe try magma but then its just foils and she wants full head, thanks for your advice sophisticutz and hairsquared!! x

I have ginger hair, but dyed it bleach blonde, then dark brown and now have gone plum red!!! but the only problem i now have is getting my roots and ends the same colour, because my roots are comming up lighter red. i used a L'oreal box colour p37 plum power. i dont really used bleach on my hair as its quiet damaged already!

HELP!!!

there are 2 options - bleach you can bleach the ends, then you have a new fresh canvas to work on.

OR

you can put a lightly darker colour on your roots which matches your ends. i wouldn't recommend using box colours though, they never do what they should!!

Hope this helps. :)

hi, fellow Geeks. Was wondering how much you add on to your colour when you have to bleach bath before hand.
I have a client in who is a base 4-5 ,she wants a dark plummy colour, i know it wont show up unless it has a bleach bath. But i am so scared of charging too much.i always lose money as i'm too soft. What do you add on for the bleach bath? many thanks.x:lol:
ps.. with only want to lift a little, would you use 20 or 10 vol in the bleach bath mix?
