I have just moved from Ireland and thinking of renting a room.do I need to be vat registered of do I just notify the hmrc that I'm self employed. In ireland you can earn up to 36000 before tax .what is it here.?
Thankyou

If you think you going to hit £83,000 in a year then you do but if you're on your own it's unlikely .

Income tax and VAT are different things. VeryBusyBunny has given you a great link for the VAT side. For income tax you have a personal allowance of £10,600 for the financial year - check here for all the details (section 2) https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...d-tax-credit-rates-and-thresholds-for-2016-17

Thankyou very much for you help girls I'll check it out
