So.... I would like to offer makeup mainly evening and a few bridal. Do you think I should invest in a makeup course or get practicing off youtube? I'm a level 3 beauty therapist.

Thanks everyone would love to hear your thoughts ❤️

I'd recommend Investing in a course, that's where you'll learn the basics, hygiene etc.
And if bridal is the route you want to go down you'll definitely need to know your stuff. x

I'm already Beauty trained so know about hygiene it's just more technique

If you're already qualified at level 3, you don't need to complete further training for insurance purposes.

As a comparison, I completed level 3 hairdressing where we did an entire unit on bridal hair taught by the college tutors, who were very good. However, if I decided to specialise in bridal hair, I would definitely consider attending additional courses covering special occasion/bridal hair run by well known trainers to enhance my existing knowledge and to include in my portfolio as a marketing opportunity.

If you were the client and researching potential MUA's for your perfect day, would you opt for the 'beauty therapist' or the 'fully qualified bridal specialist MUA who completed additional training at X school of make-up'.

I think it would be good to invest in a course. Always good to update your skills and like PP says if you were the client looking, more likely to go with someone who has had specialist training in what they are looking for.

Always worth investing in a level 3 makeup course if you have level 3 beauty but seriously want to branch into makeup.

The makeup covered on level 2 beauty is the basics. Level 3 leaves no stone unturned.

I would do the extra course. Im a self taught MUA and specialise mainly in Bridal. I have been doing makeup for nearly 5 years and have a great amount of photos and have done probably close to 100 weddings and although I am quite confident and always get excellent feedback, I have decided to do a full NVQ 3 in media and photographic makeup to really brush up my skills and anything I’ve missed but also to be able to say I’m fully trained and qualified. I wish I had just done it from the beginning.

This is exactly the route I did. Did city and guilds level 2 makeup in 2010. Loved it and worked in industry and then decided that I really wanted to do level 3 to make sure that I'd covered all bases and so that I could show on paper what I was capable of. Very worth it indeed because I've learnt so much. It's just been really good for cpd and to learn from and network with other people who share my passion.
