This is something I've been trying to do with my own hair, but have been failing miserably.

I'm trying to get the top part of my hair, the bangs area, to curve inwards, like this

or this:

but instead it always ends up being something like this

the top part of the hair just kind of goes to the side and curls leftwards rather than inwards back towards the face.

I tried combing it every which way, wetting it, this that, nothing worked. I can't understand how you get it like the first two pics rather than the last one.

have you tried cushioning it?
This video has a good example on how to do so and still look neat

remeber hair line patterns vary as well

Responding after ages, lol, sorry.

I haven't, I'll give it a shot, tho somehow I'm under the impression that for those guys that somehow happens either naturally or through just more simple burshing or washing, but I can't figure it out.

I have hair similar to theirs, where my hair naturally has a cowlick there, and I can't for the life of me get fringe without it looking like this. Not sure how to recreate it though. Just a bit of insight from me.
