i am sooo annoyed a regular client has just cancelled getting her usual micro ring extensions saying she went to sallys salon services and bought them i said sallys dont do micro ring and if so she wouldnt be able to attach them herself to which she replied "no i just bought them there and they are attached for you and they have a poster showing you what to do so me and my sister bought them and wer going to do each others but if it doesnt work il give you a txt".............i said ok then and to my horror i was in sallys earlier and sure enough those american dream ones are now in micro ring?? i mean at 16pounds a packet how can we convince clients that these are for professionals x

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life!! I'm a qualified hairdresser(not qualled in ext) and I wouldnt dare do this myself!! Xx

i know ! its actually making me dislike sallys i didnt even try and explain to the client about what can go wrong etc as im fed up trying to talk clients out of doing diy things the amount of times iv heard "got extensions off ebay" quite surprised that a PROFESSIONAL shop would sell these and advertise how to apply them x

Just wait until you can say 'I told you so'! but in a professional manner of cause :wink2: lol

Sally's isn't for professionals though. It hasn't been since the day it stopped being called Ogee. Even their price tickets are marked up at one price for the public and another for trade.

You'd never find a truly professional brand such as Paul Mitchell, Aveda or Redken in a Sally's store. Their Christmas giftsets this year were Harding and Bayliss - that just about says it all! LOL

On the extensions thing, they have sold extensions for ages. They also sell colour, peroxide and scissors too. I don't worry about that any more than my mechanic worries about Halfords selling spray paint.

Your client's main concern was cost in her relationship with you. That's OK. She's now found a cheaper way. Try concentrating on the clients who come to you as they value their time more than how much you charge.

I just paid someone £25 to do my ironing 2 hours ago as I value my time more than anything. Doesn't matter how cheap Rowenta Irons get, I won't be tempted. Know what I mean?

;)

LOL. Plenty of so called 'professionals' make just as bad a mess on their clients using stuff from Sally's too. ;)

For years, us colourists have had to fight against not only Sallys, but the supermarket too. Everyone competes for our business. Hair extensions have become so mainstream now that it's only a matter of time before Tesco and Asda have DIY kits on the shampoo aisle. If you're going to specialise in something, it either has to be brand new, an emerging trend or the very very best of a current one if you want to make lots of profit.

Something else I'd advise you do is stop buying stuff from Sallys. Use a different supplier and choose different products that Sallys don't sell, especially when it's on view to your clients, otherwise they'll start questioning (rightly or wrongly) exactly how much profit you're making on everything else.

We buy most of our stuff direct from the companies and cut out the middle man such as Sally's. For instance, I was in the wholesalers the other day buying cotton wool and almost gasped when I saw the price of a tube of L'Oreal Majirel on the shelf. It was almost £6 (BEFORE THE VAT)!. That's 50% more than I pay. Couldn't believe it.
