Does anybody have any ideas please on how I could change the colour of this nail desk (if it's even possible).

You would have to either sand it down or do a priming base coat and then paint it afterwards or spray it. Spraying would probably give it a better finish. Then use yacht varnish or heavy duty varnish afterwards in case of any spills. If possible I would completely dismantle it to do all this, otherwise you won't get a great finish. To be honest it will be quite a big job to get a great finish on if you decide to go ahead, as it has lots of nooks and crannies X

If I'm right in saying I think it's made from the peel and stick veneer. Some has chipped away and the top layer looks like it will just peel of?

Its not quite that straight forward, its actually called Conti board, and the layers should all be bonded together during the manufacturing process. If the top has started to peel off then I suspect its where it's been cleaned reguarly the cleaning product has started to breakdown the adhesives used to bond it all together. Getting a new layer to laminate to put on it is a specialist job. Cutting something to fit those curves would be really difficult. You can't just use that sticky backed plastic stuff you can buy in DIY shops as it won't be acetone resistent.

If you're looking at buying it second hand, I'd steer clear and keep searching. It would probably cost more to repair than buy new

Thank you for the advice.

I have exactly the same desk in black gloss! I wish I'd bought that one or the white as it looks fab for seconds until I touch a file! It's always covered in dust and marks.

I no I love the desk but I'm opening a new salon soon and its not the right colour. I need white or dark oak. X

There's a really good special paint that you can use to paint anything! And you don't need to sand prime nothing! Just straight out of the tin and onto any surface I'll get a pic of the tin

I absolutely LOVE painting and shabby chic-bling everything
This stuff is amazing goes on really well and normally only needs one coat I'd do it for u [emoji7]

Annie Sloan make chalk paint as well and have a wax that goes on afterwards which seals it. I too had great ideas once upon a time but like Minkeybox, it never quite materialised ☹️

Yea I always use the wax to seal it

How would it stand up to cleaning? I wipe down my desk between clients with hard surface cleaner, I suspect it would start to breakdown the paint after a while.

There's this special wax that you need to rub in after painting and it seals the paint. I've only light cleaned the surfaces so not sure if it will take a hard cleaner.

I suspect a hard surface cleaner would breakdown the wax too.

We've used a similar product (paint and grain) on some white melamine furniture in the lounge. Where I've used cleaning wipes to clear up spills, marks, etc. the paint has started to degrade, and I've only done it occasionally, if I did it 4/5 times a day I'm not sure it would have lasted very long

No i don't think it would last if it's cleaned wet. I personally only lightly dust the items I've painted.

I love the desk as it is......change the decor in the salon! :D

It's all dark oak already in the shop. So I didn't want to mis match the colours. I'm Guna try and spray paint it see if it works or not xx
