One of America's biggest pharmacy chains, CVS, has announced that it is putting an age limit on the sale of acetone-based nail polish remover in an attempt to curb the illegal manufacture of crystal meth. The company have also announced that customers will only be able to buy two bottles of polish remover a day, restricting Breaking Bad wannabes from buying in bulk.
If you're even remotely scientific you'll know that acetone is a major ingredient in the cooking of the illegal drug and a recent statement from CVS clearly states that this is an attempt to fight the manufacture of the drug.
"Because acetone is an ingredient used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, we recently implemented a policy that a valid ID must be presented to purchase acetone-containing products such as nail polish remover. Our policy also limits the sale of these products in conjunction with other methamphetamine precursors and is based on various regulations requiring retailers to record sales of acetone."
So for those of you with some serious Heisenberg-style aspirations, you may have to rethink your approach.
Until then...geek on!
