It's all new to me, and I'm only on my first task  - this is the question I have to answer:

How can teachers/trainers establish ground rules with their learners? What specific issues are there in your specialist area?

Now it is the highlighted (last bit) I am concerned about here.

Is it saying, if you are a tutor of beauty for example, what issues are there concerning beauty students and ground rules?

if so I have the following, what do you think, am I off track here?

Health and safety
Avoid eating certain food and drinks before working on clients
Personal presentation (eg. hair must be tidy, nails short and clean etc)
Hygiene (e.g. steralisation etc)

I just don't know if I am way off track here.

Please can anyone help? Thanks so much xx

You have establish the ground rules you wish to implement:hug: but the question is asking how do you communicate this to/with your students (done lots of these on CertEd and got to know their thinking!)

so, what would you do?

tell them?
give them a list of rules?
put a list in the work area?

have a professional discussion with the group and get them to agree the rules with you?

hope this helps

im doing this coarse as well but dont have this assignment yet, but im there tonight so might well get the same one

This is exactly what the assignment is about, they want to know this and want to see written examples from you as to how you would implement them,
its fun once you get into it lol, hth

When I did the course every session was geared to help you answer the homework and they made it very clear what the question meant, they practically spoon fed us which was really helpful as sometimes the way the question is posed can be confusing!!!

Have you got the email address of your trainer so you can ask them what they want from you for this question so they can see it is not clear to you.

Why don't they make these questions clear? By the time you've analysed the question to death one is more confused than clear about what they are asking for.

Why do colleges do this? It's like a secret society until you figure out what the language is. This 'double speak' they do is Absolutley stupid to my way of thinking.

Why don't they just say ... When establishing ground rules with your students, in what different ways would you tell/explain/communicate to them what they are? Everyone can understand that can't they??

Thats far tooo simple Gigi.....they cant do that.....You need a degree to read the questions.......Then the answer is so simple you spend all your time thinking it cant be right lol

Thanks all, I almost cancelled going on the course but now I sort of understand the question it's not going to phase me.

Will start the assignment tonight x

Don't cancel and don't give up,it does get easier and fun in the end:hug:

As geeg says the questions sometimes seem to have a secret language. The thing is they are laid out in degree style as they are usually set by a university governing body.

You also have to remember that this course is generic so you probably have plumbers, electricians and marine biologists on your course all wanting to teach in further education so a high level is expected.

I often wondered how some of our subjects would make be a better tutor and more importantly how it would make my students better nail techs, but at the end it all came together and I think I am a better tutor thus helping my students.

so keep at it and be brilliant :hug:
