Ask to see the paperwork?

Hi Guys,

I'm a trained beauty therapist who has zero experience with hair and I decided that I would have some hair extensions fitted as a treat to myself, sadly I'm now suffering!

I've been scouring the Internet for the last few days as I've had quite a severe reaction to some pre bonded hair extensions I had fitted less than 2 weeks ago.

My scalp is so sore that I can't even brush my hair and I have several bald patches.

The itching is so bad that I'm almost in tears :(

They weren't cheap, but I'm more concerned about my poor natural hair and scalp!

I have quite thin natural hair and to be honest the colour of the extensions doesn't really match my natural colour.

I followed every piece of aftercare advice and even bought the recommended shampoo and conditioner from the hairdresser who fitted them.

I'm desperate to find out what could have caused this problem, I've attached some photos and any advice would be very warmly received :)

Hi there,
The sections are very untidy and some of the hairs look like they are crossing over should not be in the section, this would cause a lot of pain.
I think your problems are down to fitting and I would have the removed asap.

Thank you ever so much. I messaged her this morning and she still hasn't replied, hopefully I will hear back from her by this evening.

Thank you for all of your advice.

Hi Dotty,

Thank you so much for your advice. The only way I can describe it is, you know when a a few strands of your hair get caught in a clip or hairband and tug, it's like that but with ever extension strand at the same time :(

I'm having them removed at 9am tomorrow at the reputable salon, I'm counting down the hours!

It feels horrible as I haven't even been able to wash my hair as my scalp is in agony :(

I'll let you know how things go.

Thank you again for your advice.

I apologise for the disgusting photo guys, but I managed to get a slightly better shot.

**UPDATE**

This was her response to my original message

'Hi ya thanks for letting me know. I'm am actually not suprised that another salon is putting my hair down that's what hairdressers do, are bitchy lol I have no doubt to disbelieve the quality of my work and my huge clientele would back me up 100%! They were all in neat rows and were not put in unprofessionally. It's probably a salon that doesn't even specialise in extensions. This is my full time job, it's all I know what to do! You chose me in the first place as you saw my many high rated reviews! This is the first time anyone's ever complained! So it's shocking. But I do not believe I am in the wrong and cannot be blamed for your scalp conditions. I am obviously sorry to hear that you haven't got on with them but have not seen proof of bald patches or of the irritated area..I did also offered a solution which legally I have to, you declined it which leaves me with nothing else to do. So if you wanted to take it further that's no problem with me. Thanks'

This was my response,

Thank you for your response.

Could you please provide me with your postal address, I can then insure the documents for proceedings are sent to the correct address.

I have sent several pictures, I've attached them again for your perusal, there will also be hard copies within the bundle you will receive from my solicitor. I will get the initial documents to you shortly, however I am waiting on test results and the expert witness report, however these will be available as proceedings start.

The place that I went to has been specialising in extensions for over 20 years, that was the reason I chose them to remove the extensions. I can assure you they were most certainly not bitchy, they are a professional establishment.

I appreciate you feel that you have offered me a solution, however it wasn't a final solution in my opinion.

I have been advised that it is best to deal with this matter via my solicitor now Nikki, so please do not think I am being rude if I do not reply.

Then she messaged saying she feels exactly the same, let's do things through a solicitor.

Sorry for the long post guys, I'm just not sure where to go from here :(

Sorry Guys, this is what she sent when I sent her all of the photos that are on here

Neat rows, the normal section of natural hair has been taken, and sensitive scalps especially after being itched a lot will go slightly red. I can't see any bald patches. Still have no doubt to trust my work. But thanks anyway. I will speak to your solicitor soon, take care

Her reply has infuriated me!!!! She writes like a 12 year old to begin with. Putting "lol" in there is rather childish when she is discussing something rather serious. Calling a salon "bitchy" is ridiculous, when they are clearly trying to sort the mess and pain she has made.
What a horrible person!

They are not normal sections at all, they are all over the place. She should have just offered to remove them for free and she wouldn't have this issue!

On her Facebook page does she have any other pictures of her bonds ect??

She seems very young and childish on the reply, was she young in person?

Sorry for all the questions but I am truly shocked at her disgusting reply!

I have micro loops fitted in my hair. When they were first fitted I experienced itching and also scalp spots which if I scratched at would get worse! I've been having my hair done nearly 2 years now and now and then I get scalp spots but not often. Never experienced bald patches though!

Also my hair is fine and I have neat rows at bottom and scattered on top to blend better

Omg you poor thing. It's bittersweet when people have negative things to say about pics you've posted because on the one hand you're glad people agree that something is very wrong, but then it's your poor hair and you have to live with it.
I've never done extensions but I can see how badly fitted they are. The sections are way too wide and they're not straight. The pattern she's done it in looks like the skin of a pineapple.

Look at some pics of how this should be done and you'll see how bad her work is.

Stupid bitch... 'Hi ya' - why can't people just have a conscience, admit they're wrong and say sorry?

Just keep telling yourself that they'll be out soon, there's nothing wrong with your hair or scalp, only what she's done to it.

Thank you all for your advice, honestly the only thing keeping me sane at the moment is this board :)

I think she is around 26 years old and I'm 27.

She offered for her assistant to take them out free of charge, followed by the sentence 'and I don't even need to do that hun it's just as a gesture of goodwill' at this point the whole thing was so tainted that I didn't want any one associated with her to even touch my hair.

Now that you mention it, there are zero photos of the bonds just a fair few before and after photos. I'll double check but I'm certain it's just before and after shots.

I understand that there may well be an adjustment period, and some scalp tenderness, but I've never had scalp issues before and my scalp has been so sore for the past several days I can barely touch it let alone scratch it :( and I have to believe that this can't be normal.

I have asked for her address several times for the court papers to be sent to and this was her response

' I've had a think about the documents and being newly pregnant I don't want to feel stressed and belittled over this, so is that ok if you proceed without sending anything sorry? I'm very proud of my business and work and take offence to critism, even if it is the first time since 2007. Thank you'

It is awful as she seemed really lovely, now she is making me feel like I'm in the wrong for even querying my issue with her.

Thank you all much again.

I'm trained in extensions and to be honest if a client of mine sent me pictures like that I would be absolutely
Mortified !! Her response as another poster has said is childish and very unprofessional ! She should be embarrassed at her work !! I really feel for you it looks so painful , at least they will be out tomorrow ( easy for me to say ) Xxxx

How did you pay? Cash or card. Get a friend to make a fake booking and find out her registered address.

Thank you so much, I can't wait to have them taken out now and I hope that this whole thing gets sorted soon.

I've decideded after this incident that I'm just going to have a really good hair cut then in a few months maybe I might be feeling brave and go for a new hair colour! I think I've been scared off of extensions for a little while. I'm just thankful that it's not close to my wedding as I would've been frantic!

Before I posted on this board I was feeling so guilty about questioning her as I thought maybe she is right and it's just me being ridiculous, but it is so comforting that I now know I'm not loosing my marbles :) Xx

I paid with Cash as she doesn't accept debit cards, feeling really stupid now!

I've found an address on Google which I think is correct. I'm just not sure how she expects me to begin legal proceedings without keeping her in the loop.

Thank you again for all of your fantastic advice :)

Is she actually for real?

What on earth would she need to be stressed about if she genuinely feels she's done no wrong?

I'm not an extensionist or a hairdresser for that matter but I can tell a mile off those 'sections' haven't been sectioned! Wow, no wonder you're in pain..

Oh my, poor you and your scalp. I can't believe how unprofessional she is being. No way should you feel like your in the wrong because you queried the issue with her. I hope you get sorted. Update us :)

Exactly! I didn't even think of that at the time to be honest, my initial thought was a feeling of guilt as she is pregnant and I seriously don't want to be stressed out to the point it makes her ill, then I remembered that I haven't been able to touch my hair in days due to her!

I've sent everything over to my solicitor so I'm hoping it can all be over soon, I genuinely didn't want this to happen, but by the same token, I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I have.

Still, only another 8 hours of agony to go :)

I swear my scalp is cursing me for being so blooming stupid :) still at the very least I have learnt my lesson! I will be far more careful in future.

I will keep you all updated and as soon as these things are out I will hopefully be able to share a celebratory hair picture!
