Hi Geeks
I have a hair and beauty salon in which I'm thinking of getting a sunbed, has anyone got a sunbed? Pros and Cons or any thoughts greatly appreciated!

It depends what you're offering and how you perceive your salon. Lots of people love sun beds. I hate them. We are a beauty salon specialising in skin so a sunbed would be completely against everything we advocate for healthy skin.

If your salon is more of a one stop shop then it may work well for you. Do check out insurance and electricity supply.

Pros
Natural suntan all year round
Boosts immune system
Works great with tanning lotion
Makes customers feel good

Cons
Electricity usage
Knowing how to fix problems on the sunbed e.g tube change, error codes, pay for a service speciaist team to fix these problems.
Cleaning maintenance daily.vent cleaning (not a con just so you are aware of what is needed to ensure the bed is running good)

When I lived in the uk which was I admit a while ago, I owed a sun bed hire company for salons etc. and basically a small salon would hire a bed for a set time see how it goes then maybe buy one themselves or buy it from us.

Anyhow fast forward to 2017 and I wish I had never ever set foot in a su bed in my life.
Two words : skin cancer.

It’s a real thing people. Educate your clients and yourself think twice about sun exposure and rather invest in a good spraytan system.

Yes I agree there lots of PRO to having sunbed , I mean I sold beds for a living and had one in my flipping lounge !!!

I have pigmentation on my arms which won’t go for one small extra moan..

Don’t do it .
That’s my advise

Hi.
I think you'll find that your insurance will go up by quite a bit.
Tubes need renewed often and are expensive.

Hi,

I visit salon geek purely as a "client", and just from my point of view - i would not go to a salon that has sun beds. Why? Because there is so much information out there about how damaging to skin they are. If I am going to a salon to get a facial because I want to look after my skin, take on board what the therapist has to say, possibly purchasing products(after all the therapist is the one with the knowledge, not me!) And then I see they are selling sun beds which cause damage to skin? Just seems slightly hypocritical to me. Just my thoughts from purely a client's point of view, not as a business.

Xx
