For our beauty salon we have Instagram, fb, twitter, pintrest but not sure how much impact it really has. I know people do use social media really successful to promote their business. Any tips?

You need to think about your ideal client, who they are and where they might go to look for your treatments. For example 17-23 year olds will use different social media to 45+. Some people will just do google searches. It is important to have a profile on all platforms but the amount of times you post will vary for each platform, and the type of content you share will vary for the different types of ideal client.
