I dyed my hair and it turned out brassy (at home). I tried an ash toner, but it didn't hold. Is it possible this will fade over time or will I need a color correction at a salon?

All artificial colour fades to some extent but it might look even worse than it currently when it fades as it's likely to be dry too. Visit a couple of good salons and ask for a consultation and see what they suggest.

Usually a big contributor to a brassy color is not only using a warm toned color but too strong a developer which will leave the hairs natural warm tones exposed permanently even after the color washes out. It must be recolored with a darker color with controlling pigments to cancel the brass.
