    Black Market hairdressing

I replied by saying that as this industry was in lockdown, and we were unable to attend clients for health & safety reasons until at least July - I had decided to postpone doing any interviews, as it would not be possible for the applicant to carry out a trade test for me. I still cannot believe...

    Black Market hairdressing

I just had to pop this in, as I couldn’t quite believe it! I’ve been advertising for a hairdresser to help cope with the extra work load when we are finally allowed to reopen I had arranged a ‘socially distanced’ informal interview for tomorrow. Today I was asked if I it was ok for them to come...

Salon owners re-opening - what steps to take?

Are you really just putting your prices up by just £1.00! I would think again on that one..... your masks alone will be more than £1.00 each - you will also need to factor in disposable towels, gloves, gowns, the extra time needed to sanitise between clients..,. There was a really good webinar...

Mobile nail tech going back to work

We will need to be particularly vigilant when we return, as clients desperate to look good might not be honest if they feel a little ‘under the weather!’

Mobile nail tech going back to work

I’m a micro salon and also work one to one.... The guidelines are the same - it’s the length of time and the contact we have with our clients that makes it high risk. To be honest I think it’s harder for you mobiles as you cannot control your environment! July 4th at the earliest

    A July return!

I find it quite insulting when they messsge you for your “First appointment “, adding “You must be really struggling....” Straight to the bottom of the list!

What kind of certificate do I need?

There seems to be an increase in people who believe they can operate without any formal training. I wish this country would enforce licensing as our profession is becoming more & more of a joke!

    A July return!

Another client messaged yesterday...... “I’ve been keeping an eye on your salon on my daily walk - making sure all is ok....” “So remember that when you reopen as I really need my hair cut.....” My reply - “that’s kind of you - but as I mentioned previously - I have cameras that I check - so...

How much to charge for lash lifts?

We have to be careful when we make the assumption that ‘folk will only pay’ - or ‘in my area I could only charge...’ Know your worth & stick to it! I charge £55.00 to include the eyebrows They could get it cheaper elsewhere - but that’s not with me! I look at it this way.... It takes me an hour...

    Black Market hairdressing

As long as there is a demand folk will flout the he law.... I watched a piece on BBC breakfast today where they had someone undercover phoning barbers in the area, looking for a hair cut. They managed to easily arrange several appointments! One barber said they needed to come to the back of the...

Log cabin/shed etc. salon set ups!

If anyone is serious about running a business from an out building - I would not have one built of wood! It will not have the longevity of a brick built - but the cost will still be high - and it will not add value to your home in the long term. If your business idea doesn’t work out - at least...

Salon owners re-opening - what steps to take?

A week before the lockdown I was pretty much implementing the safety measures required such as providing masks, disposable towels, hand sanitizer etc & that’s quite easy done However - it’s the cost factor that’s going to be an issue! The masks that cost me approximately £5.00 are now being sold...
