    Shellac and MRI's

I had shellac on when I went to hospital for my gall bladder op earlier in the year. there hadn't been anything on the paperwork about it, nor was it mentioned at the pre-op appointment (when I also had coloured shellac on). A nurse arrived with the acetone for me to remove the polish on my...

Very rude client. Don't know what to do!

I'm sorry to hear that you have had problems with a difficult client. But..Sorry, but it's not fair to call Hull not a nice city! There are 'not so nice people' everywhere, as you will see by reading difficulties with rude clients here on the Geek forum. There are lots of nice areas in Hull, so...

    Prices?

Well, you won't have some of the traditional overheads of a bricks and mortar salon, even if you do have petrol and car expenses to pay for.

Opinions Please - home based salon

I have (or at least had!) a dedicated room at home. When we were doing alterations anyway, I had a basin put into one of the downstairs rooms. The only problem is that I've started working from home doing sewing and alterations, so it's quite tricky to have the place looking tidy when moving...

    Pedicure on hard toenails!

I have one lady client who has a pedicure. She has 'gunk' under her toenails, but it just seems to be a build up of skin. When she's had her feet in the footspa, it softens to 'gunk'. Her nails seem otherwise healthy.

Shellac, what are you charging now?

The problem is that if enough people offer a service at a particular low price, then Jo(sephine) Public things that it's the normal, reasonable price to pay. It doesn't matter what line of work you're in...plumbing, sewing, beauty etc etc, if your price is low, then that's what some people...

    Shellac for nail biters.

I know it's a bit different, but I was a severe thumb sucker (only my left thumb and only at night, didn't know I was doing it) until 11 years of age. My thumb would go all icky and yellow and red and sore. I went to stay with my grandmother, who thought this was ridiculous, so she fashioned...

    Nail polish for men?

I have an Orly Matte polish, but can't say I've ever used it on a chap.

    Wax...Pot vs Cassette systems

Thanks Jacqueline, this is what I need to know. I've never 'met' a cartridge system in 'real life' so couldn't have seen how suitable/unsuitable cartrides would be. I use orange stick/narrow spatulas (like coffee stirrers) for brows. I find half spatulas a bit rough. As I do mostly brows it...

    Wax...Pot vs Cassette systems

Following a rather traumatic wax pot accident yesterday (noone hurt!) I'm considering changing to a 'cassette' style system. How easy are these to use? Are results comparable? What about eyebrow waxing (this is what I use the wax for mostly)? Any opinions welcome.

What mid range polish is best ????

I wouldn't compromise on quality. If I didn't have as much to spend on polish as I wanted, then I would get fewer of a good brand. That way I would have an excellent product to use, then build it up gradually. Once you have a mediocre product, then you're stuck with it till it runs out. In the...

    fibers from wipes in shellac!!!

Hmm, well I get fibres from the expensive plastic backed pads too. The think I have found that gives fewest fibres is the most expensive type of kitchen paper. Such a shame it doesn't give off a professional vibe.

Is This Table Suitable For Mobile

For me 60cm would be too far apart from my client for me to work comfortably. I have an IKEA oak hall table, which is 1m wide at the widest place and can't remember how far from client....will try and find it or measure.

    DIY Shellac.....so mad

Trouble is Jo(sephine) public will think that Shellac is a carp product if they haven't used it before.

    Anyone used Gumtree to advertise?

Glad to hear of positive response to this, although it sounds as if there may be limitations for BotoxBoy. I was wondering about advertising my sewing and alterations business there. LOL @ massage comments!

Client confidentiality vs criminality - what would you do?

So, Lou, if a member of your family was abusing a child, even another member of your family, then you wouldn't inform the authorities? A dear friend was systematically abused by her much older brother for many years. I wonder if her parents knew but decided not to 'grass on anybody...
