Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

I think that is a huge problem - the fact that people have to spend a year or 2 at college to get a minimum wage job in a salon. Yes, that's the beauty of having your own business - you can do it your way, dress your way, and set your own rules.

Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

Thanks Alison, I agree with all your points. Salons are just asking for Level 3, even when they often don't even offer all the Level 3 treatments in their salon anyway! It's often just because they want therapists who can do body massage. Some of the treatments I did in Level 3 were not even...

Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

Yes, I agree with all your points. Great to hear there are some fab bosses out there! :)

Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

Sorry to hear that! I don't know why some salon managers feel they can bully their staff like that.

Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

Sorry to hear that. It's so difficult isn't it, and such a shame to see qualified therapists having to leave the industry they love.

Is there a recruitment crisis/shortage of beauty therapists?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on BOTH sides of this debate - employers and employees. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about a recruitment crisis in the beauty industry. Apparently a shortage of qualified therapists means that salons and spas literally "can't get the staff". The cause...

    Well done! Pastures new await....!

Years of training vs 1/2 day courses?

I think short courses are fine for some treatments, not so much for others. For example, I don't personally think a 1-day massage course is going to give the knowledge and experience you need. But if you're already qualified in basic manicure, for example, and you want to take a 1-day Shellac...

I’m leaving, how do I tell her?

This happened to me - I was worried about telling her, but it was fine. She understood that I had my own life to lead. A good boss will understand that their staff are not committed to them for life, and should want the best for you. As the saying goes - if you love someone, let them go! :)...

Does mobile = emergency to clients?

Yes! And text messages all hours of the day and night....!

Re-training in beauty therapy in mid 30s

My best tip would be to train in 1 or 2 treatments at first, start getting some clients and getting some money in, and then gradually offer more treatments as you do more training. I know so many people who have invested a fortune in training, stock, kit and equipment, and then it didn't work...

NVQ 3 B20 provide body massage

If someone is very slim/bony, you would normally apply less pressure. The same applies to elderly clients.

    Dermologica or Eve Taylor?

Eve Taylor's products smell absolutely gorgeous! Love them x

    Treating other prying therapists?

Wow, grabbing the file off you?! That's pretty rude! I think it can be rather awkward - as other people have said, the best thing is to give very vague answers and they'll soon realise they're not getting anything out of you! Or you could try deflecting the conversation back to them - most...

    Posting apps on Facebook?

You could try just posting some of them - sometimes people like to see a slot that suits them, and are more likely to book it there and then, rather than waiting (or assuming you're booked up for a while) x

    Complementary therapists

I'm qualified in various holistic and beauty therapies, but aromatherapy is my main passion I've started a blog and YouTube channel to promote the safe and sensible use of essential oils, because there's so much crazy and misleading advice out there for home users. I think this is one of the...

    Opening up a salon

I agree, perhaps look into renting a room first, before jumping head first into the commitment and expense of opening a salon and employing staff etc. (Employing people can be a whole minefield of extra admin work in itself!)

Salon uses eBay gel polish, help!

Could you negotiate a deal where you use your own products that you feel confident with? Otherwise, it seems a shame to be forced into using substandard products, especially if you feel this would negatively impact client results.

Going mobile breaking it to clients!

Have you ever brought up the subject with your clients while chatting to them before? Do they know it's something you're considering, or will it be a bolt from the blue?
