I think quite often the instructions can be misleading. The setting lotion does need to be applied ontop of the "area" you used the lifting product on. It doesnt go straight onto that product though. I remove the lifting product with a cotton bud......then re adjust the lashes since they will...

Products dont need to be left on as long and arent as smelly as generic brands. Sheilds are much more flexible. I really like it.
