    Returning clients

Rather than discounting treatments I’ve put a ‘limited edition’ treatment of the month for July which is a pedicure, using fruit scented products rather than my usual peppermint and did a mini reflexology massage. I priced it a bit more than my regular pedicure and I’ve actually done quite a few!

    Hot wax

I trained in intimate waxing with Sienna X just before lockdown, and it’s the only hot wax I have used so far. I debated whether it was worth paying the extra for the name but I’m very pleased with it so far. I practiced on my friend (who’s a bit of an intimate waxing expert) and she said it...

    Covid-19 surcharge?

Hi, To cover costs of PPE etc I was thinking I might add £2 to each bill irrespective of service. And removing this charge when the safety measures are no longer needed. But then I’ve just been thinking if a client were just to have an eyebrow wax, it’s now £10.50 instead of £8.50... it’s still...

Bruise? I think most people would remember what they had done to cause this though? X

    Social media & coronavirus

Hi, I’m struggling too so all I’ve been doing so far is sharing some of the posts from brands that I use, for example: Images of products that I would usually retail. What brands might be doing to help with the crisis, for example my skincare brand is making hand gel - got quite a few...

    Small business grant scheme

Hi, the money is for you to do what you like with. It’s nothing to do with your Landlord, and you shouldn’t have to pay rent upfront unless otherwise stated in your lease agreement. Sounds like he’s just being greedy. However, not sure what happens if you leave the premises, but I’d imagine as...

Coronavirus - how many of you wonder if you’ll ever reopen?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to remain positive about everything, which is so very difficult at the moment. I opened my salon just 6 months ago, and everything was a bit slow and it was taking time to get noticed (which is understandable and I was prepared for). Mid February business had started to...

    Paying staff/closing

Surely they will announce a package for self employed? The grant for small businesses that get small business rate relief has been upped from £3000 to £10,000. Hopefully that should help a bit.

    Insurance cover

I’ve looked at my Salon Gold policy and I’m certain I’m not covered for it. I wonder if it was possibly something that was additional?

    Hot wax

Hi, I recently trained in Advanced Waxing with Sienna X and I’m using the Peppermint Creme Hot Wax for intimate waxing. I was talking to a friend and she said she uses the S-PRO hot wax as it’s much cheaper and still very good. I really like Sienna X but it’s much more expensive than other...

    The Beauty Academy courses

Thank you for your replies. Yes I noticed a lot of positive Facebook reviews, but doesn’t sound like you had a good experience with them at all. Think I will be steering my friend away from this course!

    The Beauty Academy courses

Has anyone taken a course with The Beauty Academy? A friend is interested in getting into beauty and doing the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty with them. Due to work commitments she feels this is the best way for her to study beauty. She has asked me what I think about it, it looks good on the...

    PHD waxing

We’re still using Phd wax, my boss has looked at other wax but not found anything she would like to change to. I agree the roller wax systems aren’t very environmentally friendly either! Personally, I use a pot and spatula at home and would use this method if I were to work for myself.

    PHD waxing

I have used Phd wax at work for several years and I’m not really a fan of it. There can be a lot of waste product and not environmentally friendly with all the tubes and applicators, and I agree with Cathi44 that temperature is not always consistent. I used roller wax in my previous job and that...

    Recently qualified and losing confidence

Congratulations on getting your job. I found it took a while for me to feel confident with nails, but felt more comfortable doing other treatments. Your confidence will come with practice, and it’s also much more comfortable once you get to know the salon and your clients. It might be worth...
