Opening a hair salon, can I offer gel polish?

In the States, if you have a cosmetology license you can do nails. Regulations and laws in terms of technician safety regarding air and allergy is quite weak. Its really up to the technician to take care of these important things. You'll need a machine that collects the dust from the acrylic...

    CND Shellac removal help

Interesting. It seems that they've changed the formula. Removal this way is easier since its a large piece. However, I would love to see how well it wears vs the original formula. OPI prohealth had a similar effect on removal and that product has been discontinued due to complaints.

    CND Shellac removal help

I haven't seen any new vids that shows this. I only seen vids showing the new polygel. If you can find the vid you are talking about, Id love to see it. I believe the original Shellac formula is made to break into small pieces, again because small gel pieces comes off the nails easier because...

    CND Shellac removal help

Shellac is meant to break apart into very small pieces when it is wrapped in acetone. Small pieces come off easier than large pieces of gel. A large piece of gel has more sticking power and can damage the nail when techs pry at it, which is what techs do when they can't get it off.

Many customer complaints, gel only lasts for a few days?

Many things can cause premature failure of the gel polish. It can be the following: 1. Bad techniques. 2. Bad brand.

Neighbours complaining about smell of acrylic

Controlling odors is one factor. Controlling vapors is another. Odors and Vapors are two different things and both are emitted from the monomer when you work. Vapor is when the monomer turns into a gas form. This vapor is then breath into the lungs of the nail tech and can cause problems...

Neighbours complaining about smell of acrylic

What you need is a machine that absorbs odors and vapors. Its a machine that has a bed of activated charcoal that absorbs odors and vapors. This bed of charcoal has to be replaced every couple of months.

    C curl and pinching

It does look really nice as a finish.

    C curl and pinching

That's pretty crazy. But yea, pinching just creates more risk for the industry. I don't think there's a safe way to do it because if you just pinch the free edge, the nail looks off..

    C curl and pinching

I would avoid doing very pronounced C curves because it can actually damage the finger by causing the nail plate to come off the nail bed. C curve places an upward force on the nail plate. Its best to avoid this practice because if damage were to happen, every one in the industry will take a...

What advice would you give someone starting off in this industry?

I will also add, establishing and maintaining relationships is also key. It is one of the main underlying concept of Marketing.

What advice would you give someone starting off in this industry?

My advice is this: Before you do anything, make sure your create the environment around you into a clean and hygienic place, your body included. This may require you to get on your hands and feet to scrub the floor. However, its extremely important that you do all of this. A clean environment...

Help, CND Creative Play coming off after 3 days

The CND lamp will "cure" other products, meaning it will make them become hard, buts its not fully cured. This is what most salons are doing - they are undercuring or overcuring their gels. Those two things leads to alot of problems. Its best to avoid those other brands because they will give...

    Allergic reaction

I would stop doing nails altogether because it sounds like its very easy for you to have skin problems. In a salon setting, you will be near products that are more allergy causing than in the general public.

    Allergy reaction

Certain ingredients are much more likely to cause allergic reactions. So, allergies in general is not a big concern. However, when it comes to doing nails, allergies are a major concern - BUT THEY ARE NOT GIVEN THE PROPER LEVEL OF IMPORTANCE. Which is why I've been preaching about allergies...

Yeah but its not as impactful as in person.

    CND Retention+/Radical Solar

There isn't anything you can do. Think about it. If you can make an acrylic last longer for all clients, you've already done it. So, how can you make one clients nail any stronger than any other set you put out? This one is on the client. She has to be more gentle on her hands. Or, she needs...

Is it OK to offer just gel polish and not normal polish?

The only problem I see with asking clients in advance, is that you can't upsell gel polishes before or after a mani. Your fate in what services you can offer is sealed.

Is it OK to offer just gel polish and not normal polish?

Sure you can. But you will lose this source of revenue if you choose to only do gels.
