Veteran geeks help! Custom blending recipe book

Hopefully someone here still has their old custom blending recipe book, the one that came with the metro and mosaic colours. I have a client this afternoon wanting some green nails. The colour in the picture she sent me looks similar to the old apple green green colour we used to make, or...

    Help with re-booking clients

I never ask any of my clients if they WANT to rebook. If you ask a yes or no question they have the option of saying no ;). When we walk over to pay I get out the appointment book and say "okay, xx weeks from today brings us up to the xx of July. I'm available on wednesday at 11 or Friday at 1...

When clients call products/treatments a wrong name does it annoy you?

Yes, I used to stock sothys. Nobody ever pronounced that correctly. I would never correct them, just make sure i used the correct pronunciation so they would learn without feeling embarrassed. Must admit I've been pronouncing thalgo wrong the whole time.

Home beauty room - what to do when clients arrive early?

I've recently gone back to working from home after closing my salon and some clients are still in the habit of arriving early. I have a verandah set up with table and chairs, mini fridge and kettle. I have a sign on my door (my room has its own entrance from outside). One side of the sign says...

Employing staff first time in AUS

Hi there I'm in Qld too. You will need to pay work cover, it will probably be around $350 for 12 months, payg, super etc as you have mentioned. Not sure what you mean by wages tax though? PAYG is the tax you withhold from your employees paycheck each week, and you pay this to the ato quarterly.

Nail skills learnt in college that you don't use in real life?

That's fair enough  But when you go self employed your regular loyal clients will be your bread and butter. You wont be getting a constant turnover of new one off clients like the day spa does. You need to get each new client booked back in for 2 weeks time (rebook them before you let...

Nail skills learnt in college that you don't use in real life?

So what do you do when the client comes back for a rebalance in two weeks time? I do often use french well-less tips when doing a brand new set, but when it comes time to rebalance I create smile lines just as beautiful as the original set using white powder. Surely they don't ask you to do a...

    Matrix exquisiteoil?

I don't think they do, pretty sure only the replenishing oil has thermal protection. Our order was delayed and we only got our stock of the new oils a few days ago though, so we haven't had much chance to play with them.

What were you scared of when you were a child?

The manhole! I was terrified that the boogieman would come down through it and get me while i was asleep. My dad built this really cool loft in my bedroom when i was a kid and i would never go up there unless i had a friend over cause he built it right under the manhole and i thought i would get...

Why are things so hard to get in Oz?

The best bed roll i think is versa towel made by Kimberly Clark, it's much softer than the yucky ones they sell at all the wholesalers. I buy it from livingstone medical supplies, they have many salon items available. I also think $35 is far too cheap for shellac. We should be charging $40...

    What's your hobby?

What model is it? When i was 17 my Dad helped me restore an e21 bmw as my first car. I loved it so much, it's my favourite of all the cars I've ever had. We still have it now but it's off the road now and the rust has come back severely. I would love to drive it again but unfortunately it just...

Waxing: Which side of the couch do you stand?

Every salon i have ever owned or worked in {including college} had the bed in the middle of the room and i used both sides. Now I've moved into my beautiful new salon in a really expensive location i had to give up a few luxuries :D space being one of the major ones. My bed only fits against one...

    Overkeen potential customer

How strange, last year i had the exact same thing happen to me. He was a drag queen also and performed in some sort of band. I live in Australia though and this was a local guy but the messages sounded exactly the same as this guy, he was apologizing for sending too many messages but still he...

    Tropical Cyclone Rusty

Good luck hun  we just went through Oswald and the floods that followed. Just make sure you have enough food to last incase everyone starts panic buying. We nearly ran out of food because there was nothing left in woolies, we had some creative meals that week.

Calling Aussie/Kiwi Geeks and those that use Caron & Lycon HOT wax

Yep desert rose is the pink version of the lycojet. I don't think they sell the quick dry mist here  but I'll have to give the ice water trick a try. I saw that powdered wax in my last caron catalogue, I'm torn between trying that and trying the special mix that I mentioned above. I might...

Asked to work at your friend's wedding?

Dolly, i know you have already made your desicion but i thought I'd share how i have handled situations like this in the past as it may help others too. None of my really really close/almost like a sister friends have married yet but quite a few mates and acquaintances have gotten hair and...

Calling Aussie/Kiwi Geeks and those that use Caron & Lycon HOT wax

I've used that nasty pink mancine wax before  i actually think carbon brilliance hot wax is the best, but you're right it can take ages to dry when it's very hot. At the height of summer i use lycon desert rose. It's a cross between hot and strip wax, though technically it is a hot wax. It...
