    Losing clients after maternity leave

I could have written this myself except this is my second child and I've just returned to work after taking 10 months off. I'm in the same position as I was when I took 12 weeks off with my first. Like you, I resented not having the time off with my baby so this time I decided to take more time...

Maternity leave for self employed mobile hairdresser

I'm a self employed beauty therapist and I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my second. With my son I took 3 months off and in hindsight it really wasn't enough time for me. This time I'm taking 10 months off. I fully expect to lose a few clients but for me, I feel you never get the time back and really...

    Marvelbrow washing off clients eyelashes

Things like this have happened to us all and it's how we learn so don't be disheartened, pick yourself up and carry on with your head held high! This lady is however, having you on. Tint will not just 'wash off'. Perhaps a little bit of excess tint may come off on a tissue but her lashes will...

    What would you do?

Could you maybe say to one of your other clients that are booked in later that day that an appointment has come up earlier if they'd prefer it? Xx

    What motivates you to clean?

My motivation is when I go to other people's houses and it's so lovely ~ I get house envy so go home and make mine look as nice as possible!! Xx

Sore skin on my hands (therapist)

This sounds like contact dermatitis. I get it when I paint with gel polish or IBX without gloves on. Just be meticulous with wearing your gloves. I don't take mine off until all my pots are away and I've cleared my table. Also vinyl gloves don't work for me, they have to be nitrile. Good luck, I...

    How much to charge?

I'm sure the op has enough experience and knows when somebody's feet need more care than what she/he can give. They're asking how much to charge, not our opinion on whether we should be doing pedicures for elderly people or not. In answer to that question, I say charge the same as your usual...

    How much to charge?

I work in a care home and I charge my usual for a pedicure which is £28 or £15 for a file and polish. There is a chiropodist that comes in on a different day to me so if they have any major problems with their feet I recommend them to her. It works quite well. A lot of elderly people in care...

Advice on working from home please

I work from home from a room that I have converted in to my salon. I used to rent a room in a hairdressers which I loved but left to have my son who is now 4. I absolutely love working from home, especially how convenient it is working around my son. Like you, I work each evening after I've put...

    Gelish Structure Gel

    Thank you xx

    Gelish Structure Gel

Thank you. Would I use it over and under colour on the same client or use my judgement? On this particular client that I think it would be perfect for, I was thinking of using it under her colour as her nails are very ridged xx

    Gelish Structure Gel

I've not used structure gel before but have been using Gelish for 5 years now. I've got a client with ridged nails who I think this will work perfectly for. Do you charge any extra for it? If so, how much extra and how do you market if? Do you add it to your treatment list as an extra? Xx

Does LVL damage your own eyelashes?

If you use the conditioning serum twice a day, it will actually nourish your lashes and help to strengthen them. Having LVL itself won't damage your lashes though xx

Would you contact another beautician if they were undercutting you?

From another view ~ I often have people near me charging less for nails and lashes etc but I would honestly rather have the clients I have and charge my prices than to be a 'busy fool'. This lady will have to work twice as hard for the same money xx

Will IBX work for my clients?

I use both and actually I buff before IBX. I wonder if the other person who had used IBX and the shellac peeled the very next day may not have blotted or wiped with scrub fresh after, that's a really important step too xx

    Help, major SOS

I've had this before and, like you, felt silly going to the GP for a sore finger but he said I needed antibiotics. I said "really, for a sore finger?!?" He said yes, it can spread up your arm if not treated. Get to the GP ASAP xx
