    tinting brows

Yes, you can tint your eyelashes and brows lighter. I used the ReflectoCil yesterday on a client for exactly this purpose and it worked beautifully. Works well 'down there' too. But hair dye on the eyebrows is not a safe option as hair dye is formulated very differently to the eyebrow dye and...

    Waxing Portfolio

Um, no. And I've never heard of anyone actually keeping one either. Why would you want them?

    Controversial Topic

BrowQueen, I can't say I've ever felt that in my profession. However, I do know that beauty therapy is promoted as a 'trade' in schools and looked on as a 'gap year' job or 'secondary to university'. But I agree with the others who say it's usually those who know very little about the industry...

    weavels

Bay leaves. Put a few bay leaves in with your flour. Place a few in your cupboard as well. Works for rice, cornflour and everything else they get into. Keeps them all at bay...um, no pun intended.

    Nail Techs Waxing

Not at all sensitive sweetie! I just posted a reply in response to being fair to everyone in the industry rather than blackballing one section. I thought I made that quite clear in my earlier post. If I didn't then please allow me to clarify further. That you feel it has become a personal...

Problems with a member of staff

Men don't have this problem and it's one reason why I like working for them. They'd just show her the door. It's your business. You're in it to make money. Someone is costing you money. What would you do?

Why is this person being difficult

Seriously, I would cut this woman away. The die has been cast here. Having been in a situation where a business was purchased during my employ, all contracts were negotiated before the takeover and the transition went smoothly. There is simply no room for all this last minute bizzo. It's...

I love Tammy Taylors polymer, but hate their monomer? Am I alone in this?

I have to giggle. I would love to see a suit of that nature stand up in Court. Monomer and polymer form a system, irrespective of which company has their name on them. A lot of what is manufactured and doled out to companies actually hails from the same source. *gasp* I know! So cloak...

    Peculiar to Japan..?

Spiced Hot Mocha. I had something similar to that in Mexico except they used chilli instead of cayenne pepper. But in Japan? Never caught sight of it there. Mind you, Japan is a very mysterious place... :) How do you celebrate Christmas/New Year in Japan?

    Beauty/nail/holistics/hair jack of all trades

The trades are allied but it takes a lot of work to be proficient at each one of them. In Australia though, hairdressers are trained separately and under an apprenticeship system (currently 3 years) or a one year intensive in college system followed by a traineeship (1 year). Hairdressers are...

Was I professional? RE Trainee set of nails

I think it's fantastic you got feedback. So many clients don't want to say anything so this is a good situation. If anything, I would recommend that you not take feedback personally. It doesn't matter what you feel about the lumpiness, you have been given the opportunity to view this with a...

Eyelash grafting (extensions). Well worth it. Very popular.

    Professional Waxer?

Absolutely there's a market for waxing salons. In recent years we've had chains spring up in Australia devoted to waxing and there are several studios in my city which devote their services to men. My first piece of advice is to stop assuming. If you assume that people won't take you then they...

    Nail Techs Waxing

I think that's a bit harsh, NailZoo. Not to mention inaccurate. The only bad reps in the beauty industry that I've seen have been earned by poor practitioners which are usually those who have not had a formal education and that includes all of us - beauticians, nail techs, beauty therapists...

SunBeds Yes or No to them?

Hang on, no one's blaming salons here. At least, I wasn't :) Medical research has proven that increased exposure to UVA and UVB rays exacerbate conditions that promote a cancerous environment. This is with minimal use so moderation is not really an excuse here. The WHO does not recommend its...

What would you do? Do you mix product ranges?

Beauty, often the facial is considered by folk to be the mask section of the ritual so to my mind if you advertise your choco mask as a facial then I don't see a problem with it. Given that oxygen therapy (ie topical application of oxygen) is being touted as a beauty regime, I think there are...

Sounds like a cyst. If you can, see a dermatologist.

SunBeds Yes or No to them?

I know plenty of people who love to drink and smoke but that doesn't mean I give them a jar and a fag. If they want to contribute to the deterioration of their skin and increase their risk of cancer they can do it in another salon. A big no to sunbeds.

    Nail Techs Waxing

Yes, I did waxing while attending college for nails. Where I'm from it's quite a normal thing for techs and hairdressers to do. It's what eventually led me to undertake a beauty course. My course, however, was much longer than eight hours. The theory was extensive and the waxing itself done...

    Nails at work

Hi Ester, We are required to wear natural nails which are short and squared. This is in our employment agreement and forms part of our working policy. But apart from the fact that it's required, I find it also very practical and hygenic. I hope you had a good Christmas too!
