    Hot stones - mobile

I have never done hot stone mobile and not sure I ever would -it's a real faff with waiting for the stones to heat up and then you'd need to empty the heater - it's much easier in a salon environment.

Has anyone ever fainted while massaging?

I fainted once whilst giving an IHM. It was a mobile job in a hotel and I felt like a right twonk but the client didn't notice and even gave me a tip! I did some research afterwards and it looks as though IHM can lower your blood pressure. I was also having a busy day on my feet and was probably...

    Working Sundays?

I work three hours on Sunday mornings, 10.30-1.30. I think people are appreciative of the fact I'm working when most people are off, but at the same time to me Sundays are a chillout day, so I wouldn't work more than the three hours I'm currently doing.

    Deep tissue massage courses

I did the Gateway course and it wasn't in-depth enough for me, so I'll be looking to update my skills too.

    Debit card fraud

Happened to us too, some classy individual used our house debit card to go to Paddy Power then stay in a Travelodge. What a way to spend stolen money. If I was that way inclined I'd stay somewhere more classy! Anyway the bank reimbursed us completely as it was a rogue transaction (we only use...

    Friends dragging you down

She's not a friend, she's a frenemy. Distance yourself, then get rid and focus on your business. It sounds harsh but you don't need her negative energy xx

    Hobbies

    Christmas season whinge thread

I would've firstly got annoyed, then written something like, 'I'm off for Christmas at the mo, I'll get back to you on xx when I'm back at work. Hope you have a lovely Christmas', and left it at that. Better to write a holding message saying you'll get back to them rather than stewing and...

Am I right to be upset?

You have every right to be upset. Not fair at all. Have it out with him and end it once and for all. How old is he, 12?

Complaint that I am ladies only

I stop right there and give them a choice. They take the suggestion back and apologise, or they leave immediately. I've been doing massage for 7 years and this kind of thing gets old very quickly.

DBS / CRB certificates needed for kids pamper parties?

In my opinion it'd make someone look serious and responsible when it came to working with kids. I think I'd be more inclined to book a kids pamper party with someone who had DBS as it seems more official and trustworthy.

Working from home - how long between treatment times?

The way I see it, having a home salon means I can offer something different to a high-street salon environment. I don't like doing back-to-back treatments because sometimes it makes clients feel a little rushed. I do holistic treatments and sometimes it makes clients feel comfortable and want to...

    Essential oils for room

I'm not an Aromatherapist, but my dad has bought my mum an essental oil diffuser for their wedding anniversary. Can anyone recommend any good 'starter' oils to put in it? I'm thinking Lavender as a startoff. I think around 3 others would be good, has anyone got any ideas? My mum is full of...

My friend is making me poor!

You need to stand your ground and be firm. The first time it's hard. But it gets easier and easier every time. Good luck!

    Young teenage workers

Have to stick up for the kids here... we had a lovely girl (17-18 ish) who worked in the shop above the therapy room I rent. She was keen, hardworking and eager to learn. Sure she got some bits wrong but it was down to inexperience, you couldn't fault her attitude. She was lovely and now works...

NVQ level 2 beauty therapy do I or don't I?

Definitely worth doing, not just for what you'll learn but for meeting people in the same boat, helping each other out and so on, you never know where these contacts might lead in the future.
