If it's CND products you want to use then CND training is the way to go, as a beginner, and all the way through. Here in the UK, CND provides education at every level for every system and technique, so there is no need to train elsewhere unless you choose to use any other brands in the future...

Don't feel too bad, applying on super short nails is challenging! Rather than using an orange wood stick, I find the best way to clean up skin is with a clean gel brush moistened with IPA (d.sperce). Much cleaner and easier!
