    Some advice and some questions

Something that has people raving about it in the USA is called Thriven. I have not used it myself only seen the reviews. Google Killer Strands for more info.

Peroxide- My hair is a mess

Try Tigi Bed Head Dumb Blonde recontructive conditioner and leave it on for at least 10 mins. You can find it on ebay. If that does not help then there is a product in the USA which has rave reviews called Thriven but it is expensive (not used it just seen the reviews). Google Killer Strands...

    shimmering brown??

I would ask someone to do a few brown lowlights which have a red base. If you like it have a few more next time. Do not go from blond to dark for a couple of reasons it is too harsh on you hair and most people find it a shock and hate it every time the catch sight of themselves in a mirror.

    shimmering brown??

One of the first things to understand is you cannot take too much notice of a colour swatch or the photo if you are looking at a home colour brand. The reason is it all depends on what colour your own hair is and how it came to be that colour i.e. is it virgin hair or has it been...

    Colour question - please help.

If your own hair is dark enough to provide the contrast why are you having low lights? Usually you put low lights in if the client has grey/white hair because their own hair does not have the ability to act as a contrast. By low lights I am talking about darker foils rather than a couple of...

    Colour question - please help.

Many things will have a bearing on how long your colour lasts. Your hair might be very porous. You might be using a harsh shampoo. The salon may use a heat lamp and someone doing hair at home rarely has one of those. My favourite make is Koleston but I would not rubbish other brands. Darker...

    Bleach and developer volume

OK I am not talking about dark hair now but a tinted level 8 (Koleston 8/0) who wants some blonde highlights. Would a 20 vol be OK to mix with the bleach on that? I want to be as gentle as possible and could just whack in 40 and keep watching but I wanted someone with more experience than me to...

    Safe bleach?

Has anybody used Wella Blondor Lightening System? It is said to be safer because it cannot over process and stops after 5 levels of lift. A big plus is that it is safe for previously coloured hair.

    Tint lifting tint???

Yes mostly people have just 2 tone foils but a few also have a 7 or 8 all over the root area then highlights with a 7 plus a 9 or a 10.

    Tint lifting tint???

Tint will not lift tint. I keep reading this BUT where I work they often use say a 6 or a 7 shade (20 vol) with either a 9 or a 10 (30 vol) for 2 tone foils. I have seen this done lots of times on hair treated exactly the same way a couple of months previously. Now then if tint will not lift...

    Tones and tints

Thanks for helping with my last question. I want to pick some more brains now. I know that all ranges use the same scale for tints 1 being darkest up to 10 or 12 being the lightest with slight variations but do they all use the same scale for tones? For example looking at koleston 8/0 what is...

    Adding bleach to a tint

Thanks for the replies. Yes it was for the foils. I did ask her and she said the client had used one of those root touch ups on her temples and parting because she was going somewhere nice and could not get into the salon.

    Adding bleach to a tint

Hello, I am new and have a question. Why would you add a half teaspoon of bleach powder to a 9 shade tint mixed with 30 Vol peroxide? Why not use say a shade 10 with a 40 vol? the client has a base of shade 8 all over (roots touched every 4 weeks) and then shade 6 and shade 9 approx every 4...
