Faye you got a 20% response and you thought that was poor? Personally I'd say that was great!!
As for questionnaires yes but I'd do it like this:
Please list 5 things that make you feel :) about my salon
Please list 5 things that make you feel  about my salon
You then get real...
You know what I find really interesting about all the replies here are that they are 'best guesses'. Now, I'm not saying any of the respondees are wrong - far from it! BUT how many have actually researched to see if they are right?
Here's a very quick and very easy way to find out: Ask, say...
Hi Sam
You've got some great advice there. Here is how the salons I work with do it:
They hand each client a 5 x £5 voucher (off treatments over £35, oh and they have an expiry date on too) to each client with their clients name already written on it. They tell the client that for each...
Post them on a Sunday and at the end/begining of the month. Definitely! If you can, post them yourself AND try to engage people at the time of posting. Also, put each leaflet into a plain white envelope with nothing written on the front or back.
Why?
Beacuse folk will just HAVE to open it...
Charging for no-shows? Absolutely! But, I think clients should be aware of this when they make their booking.
A top tip for filling those canceled spaces is this: Maintain a list of clients that would be willing to come and see you at a moments notice on your mobile phone. (Pensioners and...
Hi Tasha
Can you get into contact with the Landlord? If you can is there anything else you could offer him to tip the scales in your favour? You could show that you're a going concern, have an established clientele. Are trustworthy. Have never defaulted on any payment. etc etc
Also, you must...
I think giving FREE treatments can be a source of new business BUT it has to be handled properly. If you simply give the free treatment away and then nothing else happens then you've generated no business.
If you put a value on the treatment. So this would normally cost you £xx and you're...
Hi Miss Belle
I would say it depends on your own circumstances as to whether or not you do this.
Do you need new business? If so then this could be a good way of getting new clients. If not, could it damage your reputation?
Do you simply want to help your friend out?
Is it that your friend...
Wow! How exciting for you! I'm with Michelle, I'd wait and see which days aren't busy and take a break then. But whilst you're in 'start up' mode you might have to work all hours God sends!
If folk are already asking about gift vouchers I'd get some made up ASAP. You don't want to lose...
Definitely an active referral programme works. The only problem there is you need clients in the first place to have a working programme. Can be a bit of a catch 22. :irked:
There are literally thousands of ways to get new business. Nearly all of them involve having a really great offer first...
Why not do both? A mail shot AND a mail drop? If youhave their addresses then mail them. If not do a door drop. A helpful hint for the door drop is to put your leaflet into a plain white envelope and seal it shut. Don't write anything on the front of it - because anyone faced with a plain white...
Hi Ditzy
You're absolutely correct with your coding! Good thinking. Any advertising spend should be tested to make sure that it is working for you. There is no point, especially in these tight financial times, in spending money on advertising that just doesn't make the phone ring.
Not so...
We used a system called Wordpress for our site. You need a bit of technical knowledge to set it up, but once it's setup it's very easy to add and edit, and has blogging features built in. The search-engines also seem to like it.
Hope this helps :)
Hi Clare
You might want to ask them if they could bring any business with them to your salon. And if so how much? Personally, if they said alot of clients would follow them I'd be tempted NOT to employ them becuase when they leave you they will do the same!
You might also want to ask why...
Definitely all great advice. My suggestion is what are you buying in the salon? THE greatest asset you could buy is the client listing. How many are they? How much did they spend over the last 12 months? How many could you re-activiate?
Take a long hard look at this asset. If it is over stated...
Good for you! I wouldn't do it either! Because how many times have you seen a screen ad like they are describing and acted on it? Never! Avoid. Avoid. Avoid! :)
You could simply offer a discount - but personally I'd advise agianst this.
For me, I'd want to package some treatments together and call it something. Hmmm how about your Summer Sizzler offer? That includes:
Facial valued at £XX
Mini mani valued at £XX
Hand massage valued at £XX
All for...
My thoughts are this. Lets not confuse client feedback forms with consultation forms. The two are very different!
Personally I think that every salon (even just the one person salon) should regularly test their customer satisfaction. (I know most of you would say that your clients are...
Hmmm good thoughts. I guess it is a little 'chicken and egg' thing.
The way I see it is that without clients you don't have a business. Soooo the clients have to be the most important thing.
If it were simply 'you' then without 'you' your business is worthless?!?
Thoughts?
