Shellac and Minx Training - pre requisites

Hi everyone I'm currently trained to NVQ 2 in Beauty Therapy so I have my mani, pedi and nail art qualifications - I want to do my nail training but I'm currently working full time and studying for a degree in Business Studies so waiting to finish that before moving on to the next thing. I'm...

    Latest rumour about threading...

...is that it causes herpes - from the string being held in the mouth, and the saliva from the string getting into the pores where the brows are. Now, I'm not a threader but I do get my brows threaded. Am I right in thinking that only the ends are held in the teeth, and if the thread snaps, a...

Where do you get your nail art supplies from?

Like crystals, canes, those little things that look like gold circles (that I have no idea what they're called) etc I want to buy a load of stuff but have only found a couple of suppliers so far....

    Lightless gel?

Is it the same as fibreglass resin/bonder gel? I'm planning on doing some lace nails and want to seal them with a gel (it has to be lightless as I'm a. not trained in gel or acrylic and b. don't have a UV lamp). Can anyone recommend a decent one too? Is there anything I should know?

Any ideas - lash extensions and tanning?

This isn't for me as I don't do tanning and lashes but one of my friends does it as a mobile therapist. She gets a lot of people wanting their lashes done and a tan done at the same time - as you're not meant to get the lashes wet for 48 hours (?) after the extensions have been applied she...

Has anyone ever volunteered for Look Good Feel Better?

I can't do it as you need a minimum of a years experience - it runs free (so it's a voluntary position) make up and skincare workshops for people with cancer, who are maybe suffering from low self esteem due to the physical changes caused by their treatment. I think it's a really worthy cause...

Unless a client specifically asks (tanning)...

...do you just use the % tanning solution that you think would suit them? I'm looking into tanning training atm and it got me thinking, I have never been asked what colour I'm after when I get a tan done (and believe me I'm a tanning regular :green:). So do clients ask you or do you ask them...

Being self employed and employed at the same time?

Hi geeks I currently work during the day in an office (employed) but would like to work as mobile during evenings and weekends. Obviously for this, I'll be self employed. I'm not expecting to earn a great deal as self-employed at all. I understand about registering as self employed, and...

Did you train at college or with a private educator?

For your nail training? Umming and aahing between college or NSI at the moment and just thought it might be an idea to see where the majority of people learn.

NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy - Employment?

Hi Geeks I asked ages ago if it would be easy getting a job with just level 2 and you lovely geeks reassured me it would be fine. However, a girl we go to college with came in yesterday and announced we wouldn't be employed in a salon with level 2, we could only be self employed (whether...

NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy

Hi girls I'm enrolling in a night class for NVQ Beauty Therapy in Sept (yay!) but have noticed that a lot of the job ads for beauty therapists state a minimum of NVQ 3 - am I going to have to go to college full time after 2 years of night classes to get the NVQ 3? Or is it acceptable to have...
