Good for you deciding to do nails again. I too gave up nails for 4 years and got back into last month and I'm loving it again. God knows why I gave up in the first place. It's amazing how much has changed but to be honest it's like riding a bike.

Soak the nails in lemon juice and water, might need a few goes if they are really bad.

Have you tried carrying a spray bottle with water in it? Just spray him everytime he barks, this help me when training my dog.
