Business name - what do you think?

I think it's a lovely name and a lovely sentiment behind it. Your daughter will be delighted. You could also use the iris flower as a decoration theme? Best of luck with the salon and the new name.

    Waxing Accident

You apologised at the time and didn't charge for the treatment. I think that's enough especially as there was very little damage. I think if you apologise too much it can lead people to expect more from you than is required. You've done enough to make up for this little mistake. Make sure...

Award winning salons.......how do they do it?

You need to do research on what awards you want to win, what awards are worth winning etc. Start with smaller local ones to build up experience and to build up a name for yourself. Don't forget that even if you don't win - you can still get business from it, raise your profile and learn...

    Dark circles under eyes.

I've had dark circles for ages. They started when I began working trade shows and flying long distance. The following helped a bit: loads of water a good moisturiser / under eye cream applied with a light eye massage sleep Cucumber / cool spoon over the eye area helps if there is any...

Beauty at a garden centre - advice please

There was a salon in a garden centre featured in a hair mag a few months ago. The point of the article was that it was a roaring success. Really busy on weekends. I know it's sexist but the majority of customers were women who didn't want to traipse around a garden centre with their husbands so...

    curling my (long) hair

I use a really old set of Remington heated rollers. They work really well. You can put them in and then do your make up and get dressed. By the time you are dressed and ready the curls should be set. I use them with John Frieda curl cream. Just a small amount works really well and keeps the curl.

HELP NEW HAIR SALON - What brands?

In addition to chosing a good colour company that your stylist is happy with - you should also look at Easydry. They do a range of products like disposable towels for hair and beauty salons. I've been using them for a while now and I find they work really well, save me the hassle of laundry and...

    Facebook ads???

I think they have a really low hit rate. I never look at adds on facebook to be honest. I think having a facebook page for your business and asking your friends to share it with their friends work better than adds.

    Colouring a cancer patient's hair

Have you heard of Trevor Sorbies charity 'my new hair'? It trains hairdressers to deal with cancer / hair loss clients. They focus mostly on hair loss and wig styling but they might also have good advice for cancer patients who haven't lost their care but want safe treatment. I hope your...

Is hygiene important or am I being overly critical?

I hear ya. Most salons have some practices like that. You either complain or vote with your feet and find somewhere nicer to spend your money. I switched to Easydry disposale towels about a year ago because I found doing laundry to the highest standards was very time consuming and expensive...

    Easydry disposable towels?

Hi Vitality, I've been using Easydry for over a year now and I love them. Before you switch you need to work out what you're currently paying for laundry. I did mine in the salon so it took me a bit of time to work out the costs accurately. Make sure you take into account electricity, water...
