If you weren't in this industry what would you be doing?

I make candles and want to go more into it, so I can give up the day job.

    Heaven skincare

Hi, I'm a stockist of Heaven and having used many over the years, cannot fault it. The products are high end and the treatments are second to none. Also clients love the products and treatments so purchases/retail are easy to do. Head office are great and really helpful and quick and what's more...

Room rent rates - how much is too much?

£90 x5 = £450 a week £450 x 52 weeks = £23400 For 1 room this is far too much. You could lease your own shop for that amount. £40 x 5 = £200 £200 x 52 weeks = £10400 If the above includes everything then I would say that it's a fair price but if it doesn't then you are paying too much. Good luck

    Client with Multiple Sclerosis

You and your client should be fine. When doing her consultation explain the procedure and how to look after them. You'll probably find she has dry/brittle nails due to the medication.

    OPI Gelcolor luxury mani?

Hi, I do a dry mani then gelcolor. It's only after the application of gelcolor that you'd apply any exfoliant or massage medium, never before as it can have a negative effect on the gel as it could lift off and not last. (too much moisture) As for leg waxing it would be down to how you do your...

    Profit share

I would suggest you contact HMRC to see if it's possible for a stylist to be SE on a profit split. That way you can work it in your business plan and know you won't be liable for taxes.

Opening up a salon and working alone

I would suggest you leave a voice mail msg saying that you are with a client and will endevour to answer when you are free. A door bell is also something I had and kept the door locked with a note to say I was in treatment. As for advertising, try and get your local paper involved. Do something...

Opening up a salon and working alone

Hi Deborah, I got started with the help of Prince's Trust when I was 19. I found a little shop within a complex and worked on my own for a couple of years until I found that I was busy enough to take on someone part time. From there I moved into bigger premises and had more staff. It may take...

    Tax enquiry fee protection service

I had this when I had my salons. And I had the biggest tax invasion ever. I say invasion because this is what they do. They can even come to your home and check to see what you spend your money on....... For me it was worth it. I was glad of the support when I had my main interview with the tax...

Cash or card for small business?

My latest findings - I didn't go with Mpowa as I was lead to believe I didn't need a merchant acc, but I did so someone didn't tell me right. Next on my list i Zettle, it's launched this week so checking it out. And it take Mastercard and Visa. Again I will let you know how I get on.
