    Need help with contracts, ASAP

Well if your boss hasn't asked which salon your moving to etc then he/she probably isn't too bothered. I personally wouldn't worry too much about this.

Don't know about phone but yeah from your laptop or PC... I don't know how to get to the advanced search function right away but heres the steps I use.... 1. Type your "word" in the search box at the top of the page - hit enter 2. You will get search results from followers, but near the top...

Trial days in salons - paid or unpaid?

Hi, I've not stated in any of the above in anything I've said. It did not mean to read in a patronising manner. Our ideas of what we're looking for and how we run our business are clearly at opposite ends of the scale... I already have 4 of the excellent staff I was looking for using this...

    Need help with contracts, ASAP

Well if you've just finished your apprenticeship with your current employer and they're not keeping you on I don't think anyone would have a word to say about you moving to a salon just around the corner, especially in this climate! Have you been given notice or anything or been asked if...

We don't use Twitter to advertise our services as much, thats what Facebook is for :) Twitter finds us clientel in our local area!... Its great! There is an advanced search function. Type in a word i.e. hair, beauty, acrylic, minx... you get the idea :P You can then type in your local area...

Help! I have booked my first wedding fayre

We done something similar not too long ago. Not quite a wedding fayre but a local event that was on. We had a few models with their hair up in different styles, with their nails done etc... These guys were walking around the event handing out flyers and just speaking to different people about...

Unless it actually states it in the contract then I don't see why not??? Is it someone your looking to take on? Craig

Trial days in salons - paid or unpaid?

Thats the part thats maybe been taken out of context. Not once have I said that, this is your view on my opinion. I've not taken advantage of anyone, my staff however did take full advantage of the opportunity! Craig

What to do, am I being taken advantage of?

Hi, I agree with the others. I have a stylist in on the same basis. We provide all the kit and products etc, she has her own work station and she takes home almost half of what she takes in. Good deal for both in my opinion! The only thing we do ask of her though is that she is there for...

Trial days in salons - paid or unpaid?

Guys your taking what I've said way out of context. My apologies... At the end of the day I'm looking for so much than just a hair stylist or beauty therapist. The team I am building at the moment within my salon are (fingers crossed) going to be the backbone of my business. As I said I'm...

Hi Nic, Drop me a line. I might have something depending on what your looking for :) Craig

Trial days in salons - paid or unpaid?

I obviously can't speak for other owners, however to me the very idea that the business gains from a trialist by making a profit from him/her is ridiculous. I'm of the opinion that if your in business and concentrate on making a profit then your doing it wrong! You should be in business to...

Trial days in salons - paid or unpaid?

Following on from a previous thread. I don't see why trial days should be paid. As I had explained in that thread, I as an owner wouldn't ask my staff to do anything I wouldn't do, and yes I have been to unpaid trial days in the hope of securing a position with a company/employer. If a...

What do you do to set yourself apart?

As long as your using the correct product and not a pack of pastels you got from the local art shop your current insurance should be fine as chalk is just a temporary colour. Craig

    'Playing at beauty'

I personally wouldn't and don't worry about this type of thing. One of the best ways to build and expand your own business is to mind your own business! Without correct qualifications or training they won't actually get anywhere, they will stay in the same place or roll down the hill while...

    Market stall come vacant

If its a busy market I would snatch your hand off for it! Imagine what you could do.... Great place to sell retail products and you wouldn't need to do time consuming treatments, party lashes, hair chalking, perhaps gelish, nothing fancy!!! Having a client in view of passers by is more...

    Self employed 60/40

Quite easy actually. We have a self employed stylist on this basis. Anything she brings in she gets £45. She also gets a commission on retail sales of 10%. She's paid weekly into her account a week in lieu and she quite simply gets 45% of her sales (haircuts/colours). She does all her own...
