I tend to do more root perms than normal perms, I use tin foil pasted with hair gel instead of end papers. Gives lots of movement at the root and straighter ends :)
I never turn my phone off but if I don't want to answer it at night/ early morning then I won't, same as my landline, I just let the answer machine kick in.
One lady text me at 11.45 one Sunday night to see if I'd go round the next morning before 8am to cut her little boys hair as his uncle...
Best tip was £20 but I get a few of them at Christmas from clients who don't tip throughout the year. Worst tip, a huge pair of fake boobs :irked: but they were off a friend whose hair I cut and she's always going on about how flat chested I am  lol
You'll get far more experience from being in the salon than full time college! It's good if you're thrown in at the deep end and if you are just blowdrying, applying tints etc. then you can't go far wrong.
If the Manager is willing to give you more training then take her up on it. Maybe...
If you're SE then you won't be able to get JS if you have a quiet month because you're not available for work if you're SE. Also, don't make your prices too cheap a you'll find it's hard to put the prices up. You'll probably be busy for the Christmas period so put some money by to see you...
He didn't even blowdry it himself! It's a load of rubbish in my opinion, just a gimmick that he's come up with and does the same as any decent hairdresser does. Wish I'd have thought of it tho lol! :)
I got rid of a client once, she always moaned about what I did, never seemed to be happy, kept swapping days at short notice, wanted a colour when she was only booked in for a cut and blow so I plucked up courage and got rid. The trouble was, I did her Mom, 2 daughters and Auntie so I lost those...
Some people act like this because they "want to keep you on your toes" so to speak. They seem to enjoy the fact that they have this power over you but you've got to be strong and stand up to her.
What's the worse thing that can happen if you sack her? She'll maybe rant and rave for a bit but...
I use Wella colours and for some products although I think most of the products aren't very good and over priced! It all depends on what you can afford and what results you want tho :)
Really? Never heard of that one. So if I can only use a £500 pair of scissors, the employer must but them for me?
In all my 28 years of hairdressing, I have never expected an employer to buy me my scissors and none of them have offered to buy them for me either lol
ALL hairdressers buy their own scissors whether they're employed OR self employed. If not then it would mean they wouldn't be able to use them outside work as the scissors belong to the salon and not the stylist, although if an employer wanted to buy me a £500 pair then I wouldn't moan lol...
If her hair is snapping then I wouldn't colour it all all. Regular treatments and trims for a good while is what's needed and when the hair is in better condition, then think about colour :)
Or you can put vaseline around the hairline before applying colour and making sure not to get it in the hair. Emulsifying usually gets rid of it for me, unless it's black and then I'll use the vaseline :)
