    How much commission?

I took a newly qualified level 3 stylist on in June 19, so almost 2 years ago. Initially I was disappointed by her work - sloppy, no attention to detail, didn't have a basic understanding of colour theory, etc. Although her attendance and punctuality have always been good, her work ethic wasn't...

    Hairdryer recommendations?

I've had a few ETI. Great hairdryer but not robust enough. The filter cover breaks really easily, making it unusable. I've been using the GHD Air for about a year. It's fab but quite looking forward to it breaking so I can replace it with the Helios ; )

    PPE gowns

You need to weigh it up. I was taking gowns and towels home and washing every day. It took too much time, especially if there was already a load mid cycle when I got home! And, because the loads were small and being washed at 60 degrees, that wasn't good for the environment (or my electric bill)...

    Don’t feel up to scratch-help

Isn't that what an internship is? NMW is to protect employed people, this would be on a volunteer basis.

Have I made the right decision in moving?

Couldn't agree more with AcidPerm. I hate to say this but it's human nature to feather your own nest first, and that is exactly what he's doing. There's no incentive for him to send you clients if it means his staff, that he's paying for, are twiddling their thumbs. Don't get me wrong, what he's...

    Don’t feel up to scratch-help

I really feel for you. You've put so much effort in, but it really is difficult to get into hairdressing when you're not entitled to any funding. I know it's not ideal but how about approaching local salons and offering to work free of charge a couple of days a week in exchange for...

Remi cachet mini tips - are they micro ring friendly?

You could use micro rings but that defeats the point of them having mini tips. Why not look for an extensionist first and ask them specifically for that hair? Could end up cheaper for you as they'll prob get trade discount. Also, they'll know what rings, etc to use.

    Hair extensions course?

Save your money. The quality of most classroom based courses is bad enough, online are even worse. They're selling you a course, they don't care what happens to you afterwards.

    L’Oréal shade chart

So far as I know there isn't a minimum order. Majirel is xxx +VAT, but you get a minimum 25% discount by having an account. At the mo, they're offering 40% off for 12 tubes per month or more, but the offers change all the time. Also, with the 12 tubes you get a developer or salon size mask. I...

    L’Oréal shade chart

They are cheaper but only if you bulk buy. They do a package for new accounts where you get a big discount, all the colour charts you need, lots of freebies, samples, etc. If you only need to order a few tubes, wholesalers work out cheaper.

    Hair extensions suppliers advice

I know this is an old thread but it's worth clarifying that Vixen and Blush do no supply genuine Russian hair, it's Chinese. They also claim it's Virgin and double drawn. Take a look at their colours, doesn't take an expert to work out it's not Virgin. And I use genuine, double drawn Virgin...

    Branding my own hair extensions

I'm so sorry if this seems negative but this is something you need to do yourself. It takes massive amounts of time, effort and money to find a reliable and consistent supplier of good quality hair. Why would someone go all that work and then just hand the info over to someone who could become...

Please take a look at hair extension price list, need opinions?

I get that, I spent 16 years trying to undercut my competitors. The thing is, my hair extensions are better than theirs, the hair I use is better, and the service I give is better, and that needs to be reflected in the pricing. I find that when clients look after their extensions, the removal...

    Hair extension coating

It's a process that's done at the time of manufacture, it can't be done at home on hair that has already been applied. Don't get bogged down trying to fix problems like this, your client needs to buy better hair if she wants it to last longer.

    Business advice needed

I'm so sorry you're feeling so low. I think a lot of people will be feeling the same after having time to reflect. Can I just ask, have you been qualified for 4 years or did you start as a junior 4 years ago?

Have you posted this on the nail/skin boards too? Think you'll get a better response on there.

    Dialight advice needed

Dia Light are great for toning highlights, really lovely shades. I only ever use the clear to either 'dilute' another Dia Light if I don't have the lighter shade I want, or to remove a strong tone. Sometimes our hair extensions clients have their colour done elsewhere and come to their...

    Hair extensions re-fitting charges?

I charge by the hour. How long it takes to reapply a full head varies from client to client. Some will follow the aftercare to the letter, others will turn up with matted roots and a bag full of extensions that need washing and sorting. What you charge should reflect your experience, skill and...
