    Onycholysis and topical retinoids

Been meaning to post this and only just remembered. Before lockdown I had a client who has been getting regular gel nails for years. Last time she came in I couldn't do gel on her nails because she had visibly shrunken nail beds all round and onycholysis on at least four nails. I told her she...

    Gel polish problems, help!

Forgot to mention. Alcohol free hand sanitiser won't kill covid. It's the alcohol which prevents the virus from latching on.

    Gel polish problems, help!

Some of mine have had problems with hand sanitiser causing lifting too. Which hard gel brand would you guys recommend?

    Lifting problem with gel nails

My lady is in the invisible category. To the eye you can't see anything. You only see any debris when you start to scrape. Cuticles barely there too. Just a bit of dry cuticle skin on the side of one nail.

    Lifting problem with gel nails

Just a quick update. I changed the prep routine to totally dry and unfortunately it didn’t make much difference. Tbh I am pretty scrupulous about cuticle removal, drying and dehydrating anyway. I do think the slightly drier routine has improved application wear times for a number of other...

    Lifting problem with gel nails

I'll try a totally dry prep with no cuticle remover next time she's in.

    Lifting problem with gel nails

So dehydrating after cleansing off cuticle remover wouldn’t properly dehydrate the nail?

    Lifting problem with gel nails

I checked her notes. She has under active thyroid, acne and menoraghia. All are hormonal conditions. I've read that hormone conditions can affect manicures. That issue combined with me not fully removing her cuticles (she hardly has any cuticle to remove) might be the cause of the problem. Acid...

    Lifting problem with gel nails

This is great. Thank you so much. I was told you only need to push back the cuticle in my gel training. I wash off the cuticle remover with cotton wool in soapy water then apply cleanser with a wipe when doing gel nails. I only get the client to wash their hands when fully removing the cuticle...

    Lifting problem with gel nails

Shape nails with OPI 180 and finish edge with 250. Clean nails with RC gel polish prep cleanser. Apply cuticle remover. Push back cuticles. Remove shine from nails with OPI 200 flexi. Brush off dust. Clean nails with cleanser on lint free wipe. Dehydrate nails with RC gel prep solution (acetone...

    Lifting problem with gel nails

Mainly cuticle and sides not free edge, even with a 2/3mm margin between cuticle and gel. Mainly lifting from cuticle edge and sides. Her nails aren’t thin but she says she can’t grow them long. She has slightly short nail beds. Could perhaps be weak nails? Can you rec a decent rubber base coat?

    Lifting problem with gel nails

I have a client whose gel polish seems to always lift off early (within a week). I always remove cuticles, remove shine, sanitise with cleanser on lint free wipes, dehydrate with prep fluid and cap off each coat. I can tell she’s not a biter. I’m always careful not to get anything on her skin...

Those look great. How long do they last before the client needs a retint?

    My next extensions

I've been searching online for salons which offer extensions by the suppliers you guys have recommended but I'm struggling to find any. I've found that a lot of salons don't say which suppliers they use. I don't suppose any of you guys are based in or know any salons based in the North West? Is...

    My next extensions

I've got Beauty Works extensions in atm but have had a lot of problems and I would prefer not to have Beauty Works again. Thanks to advice from on here I've managed to get them back into okay condition but I'm probably going to have to get them removed or replaced in the next month or so. Which...

Hair extensions aftercare or quality problem?

The Olaplex worked a treat. Only the last couple of inches of hair look dodgy now. I'm still having trouble keeping my own hair clean now I'm sticking to a regime of only washing every 2 days instead of every other day but I'm getting better. I've stopped using the Beauty Works products. I'm...

How long would you leave in the deep protein moisture treatment for?

Hair extensions aftercare or quality problem?

Thanks. I was hoping I could use Olaplex on them. Its quite hard only applying it to my own hair. I'm still getting to grips with washing them and using masks etc. I can't get my hair at back of my neck under my extensions properly clean and the beauty works conditioner doesn't detangle my hair...
