Thanks for that, heard about it on the radio this morning and wondered if there was some kind of website we could look at. . think I'll take a look now

Yep, I looked at it yesterday & found both my grandfathers & 1 Grandmother.

It's a time consuming business trying to search out your family tree!

Our records are still sealed up here in Scotland.......as they were sealed for 100 years we will only get access in 2011.
How come you English managed to get them open early.....did you get 2 years knocked off for good behaviour.....or can you just not count up to 100??

I had a quick peek yesterday, but need to get some credits before I can get the records, I've been doing mine and my partners tree for about 4/5 years now, its so addictive :) bit like this site really lol x

I curse this thread!!

I read it yesterday, then phoned my mum who's right in there on all the family history stuff.

After a total of three hours on the phone to her yesterday, a number of relatives got found out that we didn't know about!

I wonder why they were sealed?! Surely it's a matter of public record?

Not really, it is a matter of trust.
When people filled out the census forms they were told that the records would be sealed for 100 years. It was to ensure that people filled them out with complete honesty.
