Hello,

I thought I would write this article to help you advertise your business, advertising can be a long and hard task for most so below are some tips and advice to help you advertise your business.

1. Celeb Endorsement
One of the most powerful ways of advertising believe it or not. After years of research and seeing proven to work, I have realised that anything a celeb uses or has, people will want! So take some time to reasearch celebs that live in your area. Essex is a very easy place if you live in Essex. Once you found your female celebs in your area then go onto twitter and tweet them offering them a full set of FREE (Yes free first set to the celeb) or a free spray tan etc. If they do not respond then keep on every now and then, tweet them a picture of your BEST work. Here is an example below:
"Hey (Celeb name) Im a nail technician nearby you, here is some work ive done, i would love to do a full set of nails for you free of charge"

*This option is not always guaranteed to work but I have seen it work with some beauty therapists and they are on high pay packets for sure*

2. Website
When I was a beauty therapist back in the day my website was 99% of my business, this is where all my clients found me and got in touch to book a beauty treatment. It was easier for me as Im a website designer so i was able to custom design my own website and make sure it looks amazing!

Ive seen many posts on the salon geek of people confused of what option to go for so I have simplified this for you.

Free or Vista Print: There are many free websites out there along with vista print who charge a monthly fee and you have the option of choosing a basic design for your website and edit this yourself. Yes they are handy but what most do not realise is that when you are paying £7 a month this amounts to £84 a year. For 5 years now ive used a hosting and domain company who charge £30 for the whole year for hosting and domain space. But then again you require a designer to design the website for you. Vista print websites do not give you any google ranking and is not good for SEO neither are free websites.

Web Designers: Now as a web designer myself i can see why people choose to go for Vista Print as ive done much reasearch to find some eye watering prices for such as basic website. I think its unnecessary to charge £500 for a 5 page website its just too much. The good thing about having a web designer do your website for you is that you get a 100% custom design that no-one else will have, and you can go wild with any design you want and of course it looks more professional. But I dont agree with you paying £300+ for such a basic small website.

3. Net Mums
This was one handy tool when I was a beauty therapist and even now that im a web designer. Great place to advertise for FREE! If you haven't been on there yet....GO now!

4. Pamper Evenings
GREAT way to earn bulk money on one night AND the chance to promote your services to people local to you. You can find these on net mums and search in google 'Pamper evening in (your area'. Charging from £10 per table or space. Dont be let down if you don't earn any money on the night, just PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE.

5. Facebook and Twitter
See ive found that not everyone is fond of twitter as much as they are facebook. I dont see why!???. Twitter can enhance your business by 50%. Here is a tip on twitter in the search box type in your area i.e Bury St edmonds.
THEN look at the search results and look for those who have tweeted about your area, then send them a tweet saying Hi and letting them know what you do.
If you dont have a facebook page GO GET ONE NOW! Great way to advertise your business. Once you have your facebook page set up. In the search box type in 'Send in the troops' AMAZING page that helps promote your business. Get liking other pages, write on their wall tell them what you do and you find they come to like your page too.
To get more local find pages that are local in your area.

6. SEO
A tricky subject and most find this a mindfield. Getting to the top of google does not cost anything. Its a matter of skill and experience and a good SEO specialist. Many will charge a ton of money to help you with SEO and get you high rankings. This is over charging as it doesnt go that in-depth ESPECIALLY for those with beauty websites.

7. Free Index, Google Maps and Gumtree
Great websites to help you promote your business, It helped along when i was a beauty therapist but did not bring in tons of clients.

8. Brand your car
On vista print you can get car magnets to promote your business, these are cool and can help to bring in those clients that are sitting in traffic eyeing up your car!

9. Special Offers - BUT in the right way!
DON'T sell yourself short if your worth more! Charge what you are worth. Because if you lower yourself to those un-professional £10 a nails set 'Therapists' people will only assume they will not get good quality. YES people love a special offer but you need to create special offers that will gain you more clients on going.
So for instance ' Recommend a Friend - If one of your clients recommends a friend to you, when their friend books an appointment they BOTH get 10% or 20% of their treatment.
This brings you MORE clients and the client gets a special offer. Job done!
Also dont forget loyalty schemes.

10. Get in the wedding
Weddings are a great opportunity for any beauty therapist OR hairdresser. A chance to pamper several people at once. Get yourself down to your local registry office and leave some business cards. Take a peek on wedding forum websites and search for those in your area who require your service. GO to wedding fayres in your area and PROMOTE and offer 10% discount for brides. GO into wedding shops and ask to leave your business cards. Make yourself known to local wedding planners -SO important!

11. Party time.
It is great to offer pamper parties, popular option for those who want a party and a pamper at the same time and its great bulk promoting and money on the night.

This is all i can think of right now. I hope this helps some and if you require any help or design services. Pm me.

X

Hi Gems, Your welcome.
If you PM me hun and let me know how many pages you want and I will see what I can do.

It can be hard to design a website yourself, SO much involved.
:) xx

wow, great info, txs for taking the time :Grope:

Good ideas there I have used them and they all work. Unfortunately I have found that pamper eves have gone very quiet they used to be great but some I did at the end of last year didn't even make my stall money back!

When I first started I wouldn't have got off the ground without net mums! Now thankfully I don't need it as much which is good as there are many therapists on there now some with stupid offers!!

As for the celebs, bang on there!! I tanned Gemma Collins from TOWIE and you should have seen the amount of bookings I got afterwards! All the girls from school I hadnt seen from years came crawling out the woodwork!!!

Great advice here.

It's definitely about finding the right marketing combo that works for you, everyone and every business, even in hair and beauty are different, simply because everyone has different kind of customers and clients.

SEO can definitely be a minefield sometimes...it takes time and consistency. But if you are looking to go down that route, as i'm sure mydreamwebsite will explain, keywords are critical.

They can really determine success and failure, however sometimes people confuse them thinking they are words google use, when in fact they are the actual words people are using when people use sites like google.

On page 8 of my free report I explain what SEO is and how so many in hair and beauty make a crucial mistake when choosing keywords, along with 4 other big marketing mistakes many in the industry make that are really costly, feel free to get your copy here: Avoid Making These Hair and Beauty Marketing Mistakes Here

Hope that helps.

Hi,

You forgot to mention "Point of Sale" - With 75% of purchasing decisions made in your salon – it’s time to focus your advertising budget, and engage your customers with targeted messages at Point of Sale.

Digital Signage will allow you to communicate ANY message you want to your clients; typically a client can spend 1-3 hours in your salon. After all, hair salons and spas are a retreat for people with hectic lives; time to showcase your products on screen in your Salon, which in turn opens up a conversation with the client regarding the products you are promoting. A captive time that allows the customer to browse your products and services while they are waiting to be attended or while receiving treatments.

The fact is we’ve been trained to look at screens for our information i.e. we watch TV for our News, we’re on our Desktops/Laptops a lot of the time, and now into Smart Phones. The screen has become our source.

Making “Smart” investments in technology can make a real difference to the effectiveness of a business today. The challenge, particularly for SMEs is to know what is available and how to implement them for the best return.

Small businesses need to be more responsive and quicker of the mark than their larger counterparts – SMEs need to think “SMART EXPENDITURE”.

Hint - when you first started your business, why did location, location, location matter? Perhaps TRAFFIC, was the reason ;)

Kind Regards,

Gerry
