Hi all!

long time lurker, first time poster!

ive been doing acrylic and gel nails for ages, did a course a year ago.

Now im looking to go into mobile business for myself.

obviously the best advert is to wear them yourself!

im quite happy with the nails i can do on my left hand, but the right is just awful.. any tips??

i use reusable forms at the moment and think theyre fab!

also my instructor once told me that she uses nail hardener on her nails then acrylic/gel on top so that she can just peel them off quickly a few days later, meaning she can change them often. anyone else do something similair?

i think it was magic nail hardener she used, is that a good one? or do u recommend another?

thanks muchos all!!

I advise that you don't follow this advise from your instructor at all if you want your nails to remain healthy
i don't think you will find any professional nail techs on this site that would do that to their nails,
where did you do your training and what products are using hun,
this will help the members to give you answers, hth

firstly why would you want to change your nails after a few days? please dont peel/rip/pull/bite off your enhanements.
who did you train with would be interesting to know, were you trained in acrylic forms
sorry not much help x

I've heard some bad advice in my time.... but that has really shocked me:eek:

Please don't do that to your nails!!

If you're doing a good job on your left hand, just do your right hand and try to tweak them as much as you can afterwards .... I'm still never happy with my right hand.. I'm sure there isn't a nail tech on here that loves the way they do their own nails.

I'd love to do my nails the way I do my clients nails..... everyone thinks my nails look fab, but I can see every little flaw (especially on my wrong hand)

Just keep practicing

I like my nails on my right hand, I am right handed so I struggle :) I just think it takes about half as long again as the left hand does, and Im not happy with infilling them as I cant get the angle right on the file and feel that i am damaging my nail as I file file.

Use soak of gel so you can soak it if therefore not damaging the nail plate.

Hi there, firstly I am somewhat embarrased to be writing this here, but it is for your own good, so I will swallow my embarrasement for it! When I first started (not so long ago) I picked and peeled my nails off :o and now although my natural nails are on the mend, they are still in a mess. So if I cannot go au natural, otherwise people will think that l&p or gels damage your nails and that is what we are trying to avoid. Once you do a set of nails on your own hands, keep them on. If you want to change the look of them use a great nail polish on them. Also to do your ndh I find Poppits are great. Hth

I have always always had enhancments on my nails for over 11yrs. I done my training in june and decided 'hey i will do my own nails'.....Wrong I am sick of having sore nails and sitting for hrs. I am never happy with my right hand therefore LOOK for problems and pick, usually end up putting deep colour on them to mask my problems so I dont pick, Iygwim.

I now have gone back to having them done and have no problems, I must admit I dont watch my friend as she is doing my nails as I will tend to wander' why' or should you be doing that lol,,so I just tend to chat and not look at my hand lol, but when there not done by me i'm less critical. I will always keep them short and wear my gloves to protect them,,,well I do pay for them, lol as if I didn't I probably' would'nt look after as I should.:)

|I have the same problem, my nails always have flaws but my clients nails are always much much better!

I find some of mine on my left hand start lifting after a few days but i no where im going wrong, as i see that there is far too much product on and around my cuticle areas!

I deff find it easier applying to a client rather than myself, they just bug me so much i start to pick! i try to stick to full coloured acrylic on myself now, i dont seem to get half as much lifting on myself :D

Actually you CAN do this WITHOUT damaging your nails (IMO) ive done this myself with Ezflow UV30...applied it to my nail...applied a liquid & powder nail...a couple of days later it just comes off...no damage, & of course you could actually just soak it off within a few minutes rather than picking it off! Its not something I do much or would do regularly but the amount of practising I did on myself & the amount of damage I did to my own nails when I first started training...well I wish I had known about this trick then!

I don't know about the nail hardener.. I probably wouldn't use that as regular use wouldn't do your nails any good..nail hardener dehydrates your nails which can then lead to brittle nails.
The UV30 trick was shown to me at different times by 2 or 3 different & very well respected educators.

After just over a year since finishing my CND training I can do a reasonable set on myself, but like has been said, I see the flaws and pick and end up taking them off and doing another set and I think this is because my eyesight even with my glasses is not good enough to make sure I don't get too near my cuticles or sidewalls  So I bought a mag lamp and am going to try using that so I can see the nail more clearly!! I hope it helps!

Hi louise,

The impression i got from the girl was that she put the hardener on and when the gel/acrylic (i cant remember which) was put on top you could kind of peel it off and the hardener would still be there, so that your natural nail isnt harmed... not sure if its possible now im really thinking about it!

I trained at a small academy in glasgow, and i was trained in LCN, acrygel and UV Gel (profile)

Now that im looking to stock up on l&p and maybe gel too, im not sure which brand to go for, i cant see LCN anywhere so im thinking im better to go with a brand that easier to source?

Thanks everyone for all your opinions, much appreciated!
