Hello I am just starting out mobile I have been asked why I am charging £20 for a sienna x spray tan when it states on the sienna x website it only cost £x.xx per Tan, I have tried to explain, how much equipment cost, training ect ect to no avail, so she hasn't booked with me as she feels the price isn't fair. So I was wondering do you think it, does it need to say on the website that anyone can go on and have a look at about the cost to a therapist of a tan is xx amount of money, surely that would be better only for the trained people to know, especially if it is going to lose customers if you know what I mean.
I use Tantrick and Sienna x I have checked on Tantrick's website and it doesn't mention the cost for a therapist which is good, I offered her both but she wanted the sienna
I am worried now that this person is going to pass this along to other people and I will lose customers.Let me know what you think. :)

TBH i think its unfair how Sienna x have put that on their website as people know sienna x as it has been mentioned in magazines so clients will search up on the products your using. Is there any chance you could contact them and put this to them?

I charge 20.00 for a full tan you do have to cover all your products you use and also your time. Its your living you do have to make a profit from it no1 else would go to work and just have their petrol convered but not paid for the time they are there etc.

Anyway usually spray tanners do usually charge between 15-20 for a full body tan so if your client thinks she will get a tan between x-x pounds then she will be searching a long long long time!
So she will be very dissapointed when she calls round her other therapists or salons and they quote either same as you or more or about 2 pound less.

Take no notice of it hun you will always get those who want something for nothing

I really don't think its prudent for a B2B seller to advertise what solution cost per spray is..particularly if the end user can also view that site.

Its a difficult one for you...well erm I would suggest erm...well erm ...nope nothing springs to mind how to get out of this one..sorry

Hi Violet I have just emailed them so I will wait and see what reply I get I hope they agree and take this off the about us page, I might ring them tomorrow if I haven't heard from them. :)

I would be phoning the supplier up and making a big complaint,
if customers can see this info you are going to lose custom left right and centre,
im fuming for you, its a disgrace

Hi I know what you mean Colin, the thing is she knows I do Tantrick as I offered her that as well, but I am thinking now she mite think the same about the Tantrick Tan, I did tell her to have a look at the Tantrick website and we could go from there and that I would answer any questions she needed answering, god I feel like crying lol:)

Anne...Tell sienna x that if they wont take it off then you will no longer be using their products and then they would have lost you as a customer.
Tell them you are losing clients from this.

Im reallysurprised that they publish the price to therapists on the site! Is this on the public site, not professionals only? I am working with samples from sienna at the mo, as I am looking to change solutions and I have to say that this would go down on the negative list, lol! Im going to have a look!! Think I may have to send an email:eek:

Don't feel bad about it hun. Most tanning salons charge exactly the same so she won't get it cheaper anywhere else. Besides, you have to cover your costs; training, tanning machine, solution, petrol, time, disposable thongs (if you use them). If she still seems confrontational ask her how she (or her husband) would make any money if they didn't charge for their services. How does she expect you to pay for your house? your car? your food? your clothes?
You haven't done anything wrong so cheer up and get the company to remove this text from their main site or make it professionals only xxx

Hi I am going to contact them now and ask them about removing it from the website or at least to make it pros only.:)

Hi hun, I have just emailed too, I use Sienna x and Tantrick too and didn't think about the General public being able to see that.
Hopefully if they get a few complaints it will make them get rid!!
But as has already been said, your running a bussiness, I charge £20 which is half the price of most salons near me. So dont feel bad.:hug:

Hi I have rung but they are closed, so I have left a message for them to ring me tomorrow.:)
Thanx Tracy

Well i am salon based and i charge £12.50 for a tan. Obviously if you are mobile then you have petrol costs on top of that. I have always thought that spray tans are overpriced. Why is everyone annoyed that sienna are putting the price per tan on their site? Because customers will now see how much therapists are making when they are charging £25 and over for a tan. I think £x a tan is wrong too-if you are doing 22 tans per bottle then it's only £x.xx per tan in solution. On top of this is a hat-xp, underwear-xxp, sticky feet-xxp,barrier cream/moisturiser-not a lot! So i spend about £x per tan. I really couldn't justify charging £25 for something that takes me 10 mins.
I can see where your customer is coming from but obviously she has to allow for your time as well and if you are mobile then you have to get there, set up etc.....

I am sorry but we should not have to explain a breakdown of our costings to clients this is private information we dont ask personnel questions with regards to their finances and earnings so why should this kind of information be readily available for our PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS to see. I have emailed Sienna X with my complaint.

Ab-so-blooming-lutley! Clients are also paying us for our expertise, not just our products! No way would I justify my prices to my clients, (not that i have ever had to).

Spray tanning is usually a one day course. I have seen people who have done their trainning on a Monday and then start charging clients a couple of days later. So where'e the expertise the clients are paying for then?
Nail techs and beauticians i can understand, they train for months before they start charging clients.
When i did my training i was told it takes an average of 10 spray tans to feel confident. Now i'm sorry but spray tanning is hardly rocket science!
Just my opinion :)

Not so long back I had a woman ring me about a set of nails, she was not impressed with my prices because she had been to Sally's and seen what they charge for L&P and thought my mark up for my time was outrageous.
I told her, in that case hun, you go to Argos, get yourself a rio kit and go for it, of course you won't be covered by insurance when it goes wrong, you wont have my years of experience to fall back on to apply your nails, you won't be able to come to me if there is a problem and you won't be garanteed that the end result will be flawless.
The same applys to Tanning, waxing, hair cuts etc.
The tanning solution is a critical part of the treatment but so is the expertise of the person giving the tan and I for one refuse to undervalue a proffecional service. I can earn minium wage working in morrisons why the hell would I want to do the same for a service that requires, training, hard work, attention to detail and a pleasent manner?
If the lady is to dense to realise that she is paying for a dam sight more than the solution then its her lose hun.

I am really not happy as I have just trained with Sienna X and I think that is appauling I will be sending and e-mail too. I don't know how I would have delt with a client like that at the time but I think you are better off without her TBH. Thinking about it does she say the same to her hairdresser, her dog groomer, her mechanic, her dentist or even her Gynaecolgist if she is so talented - which I doubt. Only stupid and ignorant would even think in this way, so why does she think she has the right to barter with you.

You pay the price stated and professionals are free to set that according to thier own circumstances, this price incorporate the professional's right to earn a living, the cost of their insurance and ALL overheads and running costs which are seen and unseen and fairly extensive, the cost of training initially and on-going and the products they use. I would never have the arrogance to tell my hairdresser I can go to Sally's and buy the same products and do it myself. I would really like to see her spray tan herself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bl**dy cheek.

Of course spray tanning is one of the easiest treatments to do!

But im a bit scared to lower my price incase people think oh she must be cheap and using cheap products or must be no good to be charging XX when most places are charging XX

You are right, spray tanning is not rocket science, (that was my previous job, ) but those that offer a professional service have paid for insurance, training, products, equipment, consumables ect and are offering a service. Eyelash tinting/manicures/waxing/pedicures etc, are not rockets science either, but I am still more than happy to go and pay someone for a professional service. I think that the price of spray tans varies from area to area by loads, but Iv never seen one for a fiver:lol:
It is of course, entirely your choice what amount you are happy to offer any of the services that you do, but iv said it before and i will say it again, lol, cheap prices attract cheap clients!
I would not offer spray tans for £5, just because my client has said that they know it costs me £3, my children would starve:lol::lol::lol:
