I'm just doing the artwork for my Yellow Pages ad for next year and want to put in a line that sums up the services I offer. Now I've drafted the follwing 3 bullet points to go in the body of my ad:

- Freelance Mobile Specialist Nail Service
- Acrylic, Gel and Natural Nail Services
- Nail Enhancements, Natural Nail Care and Minx:
Where Science Meets Beauty

Now those of you that know me will know that my ethical question revolves around the use of the word 'acrylic'. I would rather use the correct terminology (L+P) but potential clients will look for acrylic...... So, do I leave it in? Take it out? Change it?

Also, I think the second and third bullets are similar - the third was there first but then I added on the second one....... Should I keep them both? There is more to the ad but this is what is bothering me and I'd appreciate your input.

Cheers guys

In short, I prefer line 2, don't know why.

I agree about the use of the word acrylic, but it is what the client will understand, so I'd just wince and use it.

Just my opinion of course

I agree, if you put L & P people will not know what it is so I would use the word acrylic as this is what they will recognise, why don't you combine lines 2 and 3 and put:

acrylic and gel nail enhancements, natural nail care and nail art

or something similar, as I think natural nail care and services are the same so you don't need to mention both. I would also maybe look at putting nail art in instead of minx as most people will probably not know what minx is.

How about : Minx, natural nail care and all aspects of artifical nail services ,or something similar ? x

It's not ethical it's realistic - you're paying for an advertisement that you want people to read and understand, so I see no problem with using the term acrylic at all.

I think the imporant thing is that your add tells everything you want it to and is easy to understand and read.

How about:

Freelance Mobile Nail Specialist:
- Natural Nail Care (Manicure & Pedicure)

- Nail Enhancements (Acrylic, Gel & Minx)
Where Science Meets Beauty

I wasn't sure if the "Where Science ..." bit referred just to minx.

I like this too... as a professional you know what L&P is but a lot of potential customers wont and you can educate them once you get them sat at your nail desk :)

Good luck with your decision

You have to bear in mind that the ad might not come out for several months. When I first designed my add I used Jessica and for one reason or another I stopped so by the time the add came out it was incorrect.

Give yourself enough leeway that you are not held to something in print.

I would go for the Nail enhancement one and not stipulate L&P, Gel etc. and this will get people phoning up and asking. If you only put acrylic and gel and someone wants wraps, they will not call you. But if they call and ask for wraps because they dont know you dont do them, then you can talk them into having what you do do!

Also why have you put Minx in with enhancements?

Will lots of clients know what Minx is?

Just my thoughts!

Thanks all for your input - acrylic it is (although it grates on me, lol!!)

The 'where science bit' refers to everything I offer - I've customised the CND strapline to try and give the impression that I am a nail specialist and it's more than just playing with polish!!

Good point about the timescale Fiona......

Regarding Minx, I'm including the Minx logo in my ad so if people don't know what it is they can google it or ring and ask but it should be obvious that it's a product...... You're right about it being with enhancements though - it doesn't just belong there!

Thanks for your help, I'll have another fiddle with it!

No need to apologise you haven't upset me at all , I really appreciate your help...... I was trying to explain the context of that sentence, so people could understand why I wrote it - doesn't make it right though :)!!!!!

Seriously, I'm really grateful for eveyone's input on this - I've been fiddling with it on and off all day and can't see the wood for the trees now!

At the risk of being ridiculed, what is minx?

Will Joe Public know what it is?

It is a fab new nail covering which Sweet Squared have the distribution rights to in the UK. Hopefully Joe Public will be demanding it soon.

Do a search, there are loads of threads discussing it (and pics) on the site.

No ridicule from me - Minx is relatively new to the UK, it's a veneer for use over natural nails or enhancements with loads of amazing designs and finishes..... Perfect for those that are rubbish at nail art (me!). Put Minx into the search on here and you'll get info and pictures!

I've included the Minx logo in my ad, so people will realise it's a brand/product. Also, my YP doesn't go out til next April so there's another 6 months for public awareness to increase........ I'm hoping to be a step ahead of the game and if I'm the only one who advertises it, hopefully I will pick up all the business for it......

What about

Acrylic Nail Enhancements (available in both Gel and Liquid & Powder)

Good point...... I will work this out!!

Now I have a headache, lol :). OH due home soon - see what he has to say!

what about...

Acrylic L&P

OR

Acrylic Gel

When a client rings me asking if i do acrylic i say yes its acrylic gel and book her in.

Right, thanks everyone for the input - all suggestions/objections were really helpful . My 4 bullet points now read:

• - Freelance Specialist Mobile Nail Service
• - Nail Enhancements In Acrylic Or Gel
• - Natural Nail Care
• - Minx Nail Armour

I've put the tag-line 'where science meets beauty' after my website address, so it's more of a comment on my service generally.....

I'm submitting this first thing tomorrow, so I'll try and work out how I close this thread as it's purpose is served! Thanks guys xx
