Hey guys im wondering if anyone can help me,
I've suffered with Acne for like 10 years now and have tried everything, im almost 23 now and it is getting worse, especially my neck, chest and shoulders.
Ive been to see a skin specialist who prescribed roaccutane which i tried and couldnt stick the side affects!
Does anyne have any idea's or has anyone been suffering with acne too?
Its so painfull and itchy its driving me mad and everytime i wear makeup it gets worse but with the industry i work in a ifeel i have to wear makeup in order to look the part/ professional!!

Should i try and stick the side affects and go back to the roaccutane?

Thanks guys!:cry::cry:

I do feel for you but I didnt suffer with acne as a teenager - only adult acne in my 30s.

I am sure you have a fab skin care routine both morning and night, using appropriate products. Have you ever tried using mineral based makeup? I have found this to help acne related skin issues.

I too had a nightmare with Acne when i was in my early 20's!

I was prescribed Roaccutane for it - i used to walk out the chemist with carrier bags full of the stuff! If you do go back onto it find a really good moisuriser you like and have plenty of it with you at all times. Then find a really good lip balme - not petroleum jelly, and buy about a hundred of them. I've never used so many in my life - was constantly applying it.

It worked wonders for me, still have some acne on my chest but nothing like it used to be!

Hi Hun
Im also 23 and had acne since 13. After being on roaccutane i still suffer with a couple of spots here and there, but can say my skin is nowhere near as bad as it was. I can imagine how you feel, I was exactly the same. And it does get you down. If you can stick with the side effects its really worth it. Like said above, a good moisturiser will set you right. And also eye drops if your eyes get dry. I found using emulsifying ointment on my skin and in the bath helped with the dryness.
Hormones have their part to play also but im much happier with the the odd breakout than suffering like i did. xx

Just to add, certain skin peeling treatments can really help with acne and give the skin a good clear out. just as long as you dont have the treatment while on the medication. And i believe you must wait 6-9 months after stopping roaccutane.

I suffered from severe acne (big disgusting cysts). I got it under control with a series of AHA peels. As already mentioned you do have to wait if you've been taking roaccutane. An absolutely religious skincare routine is necessary. I cleanse/tone/ serum/ moisturise x2 a day sometimes 3 times a day as well as exfolliate & mask at least twice a week.

Hiya

Have you tried IPL Intense Pulse Light? Photo-Skin rejuvenation.
what this will helpbreakout, Scars and kill bacteria through it's heat/light intensity.
If you don't offer this as a treatment in your salon asl geeks who are near to you who do offer it, it can be exspensive per month, but it will help reduce live Acne and help with fresh or older Scar tissue.

Good Luck

Thanks so much guys for taking the time to give me some advice i really apreciate it as i just didn''t know what else to do, i think i might just give the roaccutane one more shot, the thing is tho doesnt it affect depression as i dont want to make that worse!
whats this light thing that has been mentioned?

Depression is one possible but rare side effect. When I went on it I made sure I told a close friend who would be honest if I started acting different.

The only side effect I had was very dry skin and eyes - but it helped my skin a lot. My makeup actually stayed on all day! Years later, my acne is better than it was before I took accutane, but it still plagues me..... in my 30s.

I don't regret taking it as it did seem to help a lot short term and still helps a bit long term.

I also found my hair hardly needed washing. I could go days without washing it!

I've not tried mineral makeup before so I don't know what it's like but have heard rave reviews about. I cannot wear foundation and powder at all as after a week I get acne really bad. It's unfortunate but a lot of people view acne as being dirty. That the person doesn't wash properly and that's the reason they have acne. Any time I've used makeup to disguise the problem it's only gotten worse. Over the years I've learnt by the consistency of creams, foundations etc if i'll break out with it. When I moved to the city, my skin was absolutely foul for 2 years. I put it down to the pollution in the city - I come from a country town. I have used proactiv solution for about 2 years and it has done fabulous things for my skin.

Hi, I suffered from bad skin since age 11 and now 20 I have finally found somthing that seems to work for me. I always use mineral make up and have done for 3 years but this didn't help get rid of spots, although I found it covered them very well.
I now take "halibut liver oil" (holland & barret about £4.50 for 200 capsules). This is a fish liver oil high in vitamin A, which is essential for skin maintainance and you take 1 a day (no nasty side effects and comletely natural). It provides you with nearly 200% of your recommended daily allowance of vit A and since I started taking these about 8 weeks ago my skin has been excellent and my clients have even commented on how clear my skin is looking. I have tried everything under the sun to try and clear up my skin (for nearly 10 years) and I think I have finally found my solution. I would recommend giving this a go before you go back to roaccutane.

Thanks guys its nice to know im not the oly one suffereing, i am going to try that kat thanks, and im also going to try mineral makeup as makeup makes me break out bigtime too, i find using sunbeds helps me sometimes.

does anyones acne get itchey, of late mine has been extremely itchy and very sore.

Try burdock root capsules, they wont counteract your medication. The purpose of the root is to cleanse the blood from toxins, that cause acne, and numerous other skin conditions.

Hi, I had acne when I was about 15-16 for about a year or so and it has just started to break out again recently, I cant really put it down to anything other than that I have been under a lot of stress lately.

A lot of my spots are very itchy and sore - it is so frustrating!

I'm trying different things at the mo and might have some more glycolic peels done as they worked wonders for the scarring I had from the last lot and did clear my skin up quite a lot too.

I hope you find something that works hun! :irked:

Just to add, I'm not a professional in beauty, just giving my story :)

Thanks moobile harmony and Sarah, where can i get these tablets and where do u get the face peels?
very interested!
Does anyone try sunbeds? My sking cas cleared brilliantly in the past couple of days but i guarantee in a couple more days it will be very severe again, i just cant pin point whats going wrong or what i may be doing wrong!
The pain and itch drives me crazy, i have waist length hair and always have to tie it back, always wear pollor necks to cover myself up and cant get out with mates on nights out no more cause i have to cover up so much and dont want to wear a pollor neck to a club.
i thought by now after suffering 11 years it would have cleared.

I've suffered with spots all my adult life, usually round the mouth, chin area.

I went for a facial a few years ago, and the therapist said, well with having acne, and that astounded me, I had acne! never thought it was acne.

Went to the GP who presribed acne medication, took it for 6 weeks and went back to be told I would have to take it for years. so, threw the prescription in the bin. Started taking Perfectil, didn't really notice any diffs.
then clear complexion, still nothing. then natural skin tablets with burdock in them.

My acne is now on my jawline, I've been told its hormonal probs (which I've suspected) and possibly my spleen not working efficiently.

I suspected that it was hormonal as its actually quite clear when I have my period and gets worse the further away from my period.

I will definetely try the vitamin A, apparently zinc is supposed to be good too.

Two years ago I went on a severe detox diet, got my hair analysed and cut everything that showed up as intolerances out of my diet for 6 weeks. It was hell, but near the end I had a flat stomach and clearish skin - not clear skin. So, don't suspect its food intolerances, but hormonal.

I am really just a reader of this board, and am actually a nail tech that just happened upon this thread, and I felt compelled to respond.

I am almost 42 now, and had moderate to sever acne from my tweens thru my early 20's. I was treated regularly by a dermatologist throughout those years, which helped keep it under control. However, when I turned 21, I decided I was too old to be dealing with acne...that was when my doctor suggested Accutane.

After 5 months of torture, dry skin, eyes, basically everything, I came out with skin BETTER than what I began with. The interesting thing is, that 20 years later, I have amazing skin for my age, and the fact that I grew up at the beach, tanning (with baby oil) for years, I have very little visible signs of sun damage.

So, when all else fails, this is your best bet. It will be an uncomfortable 5 months (at that time, that was the length of the treatment, not sure what it is now), and you absolutely won't look your best, but when it's all said and done, you'll be immensely happy...and beautiful!

Good luck!!

Anne :)

Hello,

I feel like my situation is very similare. I've tried everything for my skin, chem peels, microdermabrasion, IPL treatments, blueU, laser, etc... Some did work, but only temporarily and cost a fortune to have done weekly. A few months ago my doctor told me that accutane was my only option left, but the side effects looked pretty crazy. I decided to give Proactive a shot (I never thought it would work because of its mass advertising and such), but it was my last hope.

Currently I've been using an oral antibiotic and Proactive for the past month and my skin is already 85% better. I also take Vitamin A and C everyday and when my skin is really bad (like that time of month) I take some zinc supplements. This is the best combination I've found so far for my skin, I've tried almost every salon quality skin care line, but proactive seems to be work the best. Give it a try!

Hope this helps.

Hi Claire
The only products that worked for my adult acne (I suffered for 2 years) were Paula's Choice products - would highly recommended them Paula Begoun - The Cosmetics Cop - Paula's Choice

Website also has excellent advice on acne, blackheads and a whole host of other skin concerns. Was a total life saver for me, my skin is great now.
