Hi, as requested here is my first tutorial on acrylic rings :)

Firstly let me appologise for the quality of the pictures, they are not the best but i hope they help out the wording a little :)

Items Needed:

  • Nail varnish
  • Cellotape
  • Backing from Nail Forms
  • L&P
  • Pen
Step 1

Select a ring radius, i use the top of a nail varnish to carefully select the curcumfrance size, this is quite difficult and i think this bit is guess work.

Step 2

Using the backing from nail forms, draw the thickness that u want you nail, this needs to be done with the shiney side facing you. I'm using the width of my nail file upon this ring for example. Trim the nail form backing to the size to 'overlap' the varnish lid.

Step 3

After trimming the backing paper, wrap the backing around the lid of your chosen varnish bottle and use the tape to secure in place, ensure the shiney side of the paper is facing up.

step2.jpg

Step 4

Using you l&p start building your ring! Keep to the lines you drew on the backing paper to keep the thickness of the ring equal. You may use any l&p here but please note that if you use a glitter l&p then you will have to cap in clear so the glitter does not get filed off when refining.

Step 5

Allow to set, slide the backing off the varnish lid and remove the paper & tape from the inside of the ring. Now it is time to refine the shape of the ring.
You may use an electric file but i am doing by hand. Smooth out any lumps and bumps and sharp edges, keep the ring thick for strength. Go over with a buffer block to remove scratches and smooth.

**At this point you ring is complete and you may finish by painting with varnish***

You are now also ready to make the 'top' part of your ring :)

Top Part: Pink Square

Again using the backing paper from nail forms, select your colour l&p. Sculpt the outer edge of the shape of your ring, i am creating a square in a dark pink.

I then added a baby pink with sliced glitter and hexigons to the centre of the square design. Keep the coloured quite thin and once you have finished with the decorations, build the strength up with clear l&p. Build the highest part in the centre.
Allow to set and fefine the shape by filing, again buff over to smooth

Add any art to the top piece and allow to dry before coating with clear varnish.

Attatching

To attatch the 'top' to the ring, etch a small section on your ring and add a bead of clear acrylic to the ring.

CIMG0705.jpg

Grab the top section and place into the bead on the ring, turn upside down to check the ring is straight and even and hold in place until the clear bead has bonded the two together.

**This s your ring completed**

Make sure to be carefull as the ring is still quite fragile.

** If anyone is wanting any other 'top' designs in tutorial form EG butterfly, casino dice etc, please let me know/suggest and i will try to make one up in tutorial form**** :)

Hope you all enjoyed this, comments are much appreciated. Thanks

Ok, what i will do is just the 'top' part of butterfly ring as tutorial, this just saves the hassle of going through the making of the actual ring.

Make the ring in the tutorial above and then create the butterfly and apply the same way as detailed above.......

Keep checking tutorials for Butterfly ring :)

Yay I had a go this afternoon. It's not very straight.

Xx

LOOKING GOOD!!!!!! Well done you!!!!!

I try to hold down the nail form with my index and middle finger whilst sculpting and allowing to cure.

Keep it up! Just waiting for the battery to charge on my camera before uploading the butterfly :)
