I am a beauty salon owner, and was thinking about extending the services here.
Someone suggested maybe doing online courses and/tutorials for the general Joe ie step by step guides for how to look after your skin and working out skin types and charging a small fee to access the tutorials- I am trying to bring in more revenue for the salon but as a busy mum of three and working at the salon full time, I was hoping for something that can manage itself once I’ve created the tutorials. (Obviously these would be basic so as not to put us therapists out of business).
My questions are, do you think this is a good idea? How much typically could I charge for this, and what extra qualifications would I need for this? I know that if I was to train beauty therapists I would need accreditation but would I for these?
So sorry for the long post, but I’m trying to think out of the box, because beauty salons are literally popping up all over in our small town and I want to survive [emoji27]

It's good to be thinking about expanding your business lines but I suspect the on line tutorials may not work because of all the videos people can access on You Tube for free already.

Perhaps consider what you can do to rise above the competition. For example:
  • Increase your prices
  • Run promotions (not discounts) so your appointment slots are fuller.
  • Introduce more expensive specialised treatments such as electrical facials, lava shell massage, luxury packages

I've introduced more expensive treatments- advanced electrical facials and lash lifting, like CFBS says. Use your underpinning knowledge to fully utilise your skill set. Yes, and rise above the basic nail/brow/tanning lower cost treatments if you can. As they say work smarter, not cheaper or harder !.

I will not be discounting unless I have to, but at the moment it's
Pay for 6 facials and get 1 free, . My skincare range has had a massive upgrade to allow these costs to be worth the extra.

RRP lash lift £xx ....introductory offer £xx for a limited period. It's working well so far as I am still on my intro period- have been since november lol.

Don't bother with the hassle of tutorials...you would be better off doing an actual trainer session. The add on courses I have done have been through individuals like you , wanting to educate students and filling their working week with a few days of training sessions. Perhaps go in a new direction???

I have recently had 1 to 1 training with a lady that has a salon open 4 days a week and does training on 1 or 2 days per week to suit herself. That should give you something to think about.
