Hey guys!!
I went out to see my rabbit and guinea pig this morning and found that my guinea was dying, my rabbit was lying next to him, I suppose comforting him in his last hours.:cry:
I brought my rabbit to keep the guinea company as his brother died last year, yes I know your not suppose to keep them together, but after speaking with my vet he said they would be ok and they would enjoy the company.
What I would like to know is how am I going to stop my rabbit from getting lonely / board as he's never been on his own before?
I'm taking a trip to pets at home this after to get some bits for him.
Any ideas would be great
Thanks

Another rabbit?

So sorry to hear that hunny.
Its awful when a pet goes.. even more horrible when you can see it happening.

Rabbits are very sensitive and if he hasnt been on his own before he will get lonely because he isnt used to it.

I have 2 house rabbits (pics in my gallery) and you should have seen the first one perk up when we got him a little girlfriend!! LOL

They are BOTH done so no babies or spraying us with wee anymore! LMAO

Yes, my advice, get him a friend. xxx

If two rabbits is too much for you to handle try a fluffy toy.
My sons rabbit had a fluffy toy killer whale as his companion.
He loved it dearly, a little too much for my liking, the poor toy must have felt violated. But Floppy loved his little black & white fluffy friend.

Sorry t hear about your little guinea pig!!
Not sure how oyu would feel about ti but maybe move the bunny inside? That way you wouldbe comforting him instead of another pet? He may not like that! Just a thought! he'll be learning new 'house skills' if oyu like so he may not miss his other little buddy too badly!!

Hope he is ok!!

Pets at home do a great range of bunny toys, I have a mini lop who recently moved outside and is on his own. he fills his time in the hutch with wicker balls, wooden ball with a walnut in the middle, dried corn on the cob, woodland fruit sticks, flavoured wooden chews, balls and the most important thing, a snugglesafe heat disc. You pop it in the microwave to heat it up, it lasts 12 hours and has a lovely fleecy cover. May not be a guinea pig but it will give off heat and feel soft and cuddly like a guinea pig, just a thought.

THey also do some lovely play tunnels, cardboard tunnels and hay covered tunnels, wooden houses (for small rabbits) and such like. I would buy a grooming kit (if u have not got one already) and spend time each day with him on your knee brushing him, this is meant to be quite relaxing for them. Mine loves it but he was a show rabbit before I had him so he is very used to sitting still and being brushed.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

LOL!! Toy wise, I got my rabbit a Sports Bunny Roadster!! LOL!!! It sounds like a sports car but it's a little tunnel thingy thatshe runs through! Could possibly be the most boring toy in the world but she loves it! Was only about £6 I think!! Might be worth a try too!! xx

I never knew you weren't meant to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together - or did you mean two boy rabbits?
We've always kept rabbits and guinea pigs together and they've got on fine.

Myth is yes they can be kept together and as we were all growing up we all saw them togethr in the pet shops.

Truth is, they are very different in digestive, food/living needs and vets dont recommend it.

But people have been doing it for years.:green:

... a mirror .?? works for turkeys ... as they like to be in big groups .... Or maybe another rabbit from a rescue or something ...good luck

Yes I agree if you are gonna get one, rescue one thats been forgotten by another child and handed in rather than buying one from pets at home.
Look up on google for rescues centres in you area.. here I found one. Rabbit Rescue and Rehoming Cases in UK

My Boyfriend is always looking up the rescue centres for bunnies, cos he loves our 2 and like reading the stories and stuff.
He nearly went and got another one a few months back!

Thanks for all your ideas!!!
I've bin and brought him some toys and a new igloo so hopefully he'll be OK.
And I plan to bring him indoors a bit more for some socialising and stuff.

I had a guinea pig and rab living together,I brought the rab first and was told that it was a girl, anyway I felt guilty with my rab all alone outside in its hutch so we decided to get a guinea called stripe,

After a while everytime I checked Stripe I would notice his ears were all scabby,so I treated with salt water and couldn't understand what had happened.

One day I went to open up the hutch and saw my girl rab was in fact a boy rab,I could see his didgery doo,I called the vet and said about the scabby ears and everything and he said the rabbit who was called Jasper was probably chewing Stripes ears whilst trying to mate with him:eek:

The vet told me that quite often people find their guinea's dead as a direct result from the rabbit kicking, they shouldn't be kept together as the guinea has no means of getting away from the rab and because its so much smaller this usually ends in a severe injury.

I didn't know this until he told me and seperated them immediately. It was a pain as I had 2 hutches after that to clean out but better that than anything horrible happening.

I'm sorry about you Guinea and am not saying this is what happened to him/her but just letting everyone know what I was told.

Companion wise I dont know if you rab would except a new rab in his hutch, maybe have a chat with the shop,my rab lived til he was 9 yrs old and he was on his own after my guinea was moved. He was fine,we cuddled him everyday and he had a lovely run.HTH
