After completing my nail tech course, I'm now left with the aftermath of someone else practicing tip blending  Most of my nails have separated from the nail bed around the free edge and although the damage is growing out quite nicely as I have filed them all very short and left them alone (apart from lots of solar oil and a bit of tea tree oil) I am now starting to work quite a lot and am feeling very embarassed by them.

What do you think about applying a nno using a soak off gel (maybe a colour) to cover them over until they look a bit better? As long as I keep them very very short (not past the end of my finger) do you think it would be ok? or would I be in danger of more damage?

Hi,
I am goin thru the same thing as you. After my Nail course my nails were shot! I manicure them every week and keep them cut short. The damaged nail is growing out nicely and has re attached to the nail bed. I really dont want anything on them at all for a while.

The nno or gel are good ideas though if you have the time to maintain them now that you are working on clients. I dont.

Good luck

You can disguise the damage with ordinary polish without stressing out your already stressed out nails anymore.

I have tried using nail polish as that was my first instinct, but haven't yet mastered the art of keeping it nice while working on clients:lol: Now I have clients booked in every day for the next fortnight and I haven't the time to touch up polish every 5 minutes. Any tips for keeping polish looking good when working with acetone and monomer etc?

You can use Hands down pads when using anything acetone based or use a glove .

Already tried the hands down pads and I still manage to make a mess  I suppose I could wear a glove, but my hands sweat a lot in them so its uncomfortable!

Oh well, maybe only a month or so before the damage grows out:)

By the way, which stresses the nail more, l&p or gel?

Star Nails Quattro Gel can be used over polish on natural nails. You have to buff it off before the polish will come off with remover.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll look into it. I have seen other posts about topcoating polish with gel products but it can be very confusing about which ones can be used with normal polish and which are only for use over acrylic.
