I am still training and have been practicing on friends. 2 of which are problems, they both bite thir nails off! and both normally go to a local nss run by a thai lady.
they both sit and compare everything i do to the nss service and try to offer me advice "oh they normally use an electril drill to do that, they just brush the acrylic on it 2 coats like a varnish, blah blah blah"

one of the ladies bites her natural nails too and so application is difficult. (i am considering trying to sculpt nails as tips dont seem to last on her, but then again nothing will as she admits she gets drunk and bites them off!) yesterday i saw her and she had seen an electric file in tk max and was trying to tell me i should buy it, she went on and on about it!

i have tried to explain that i do not want to learn to do nails the way the nss does it but they obviously arent taking in that i want to be of a better quallity and provide an indulgent treatment not make people feel they are on a conveyor belt!

please can someone give me advise on what to say without sounding like im trying to make the nss sound bad for my own benefit???

she is a singer and will be an excellent walking advert for me so i want to convert her to my way of thinking! (and also she is a good friend of mine)

thankyou

Have you told her WHY you do not use the Efile that way and why its is wrong to do it in that fashion? I see nothing what so ever with the use of an Efile.... IF it is used right, she needs to understand this. She is your good friend so you need to be Blunt with her. As for the to Blob drop and spread? well that is one thing they are good at. I don't do it that way nore do most, but I am in aw of the ones that can.

I bite my nails and I have found what works best for me is this.

1st I extend my nail bed to the tip of my finger and the file the acrylic nice and thin. It is just there for a base.

2nd I glue the tip to the extended tip (I only do this for Pink and white tips)

3rd. do what you always do from here. Build the nail.

I use CND Neutral pink to make the extended tip, and after I put on the white powder I use a Bright pink to fill in the rest as I like the pinker pink. But it is not Opaque enough to do the extention with. I don't want to see through the tip.
I think this has worked really well for me and might help her as well. I can not tell you how to keep her from ripping them off... she has to do that. I hope you do not do them for free every time this is going to cost you a ton! Free for a friend is not free for you!

why are you in awe of this? i thought it was bad because then there is no apex for strength and the nail looks flat??

when you say you extend your nail bed then use a tip, do you mean just laying the acrylic over the skin? or is there a trick to get a form in whithout the swollen skin making it raised?

thanks for your reply btw :)

There is a tutorial on here some where for saddling the tip so it fits over the swollen skin.
I'm a biter and i always tip. I find its easier than trying to sculpt and no over exposure.

I would also just tell her exactly why you want to be different from the NSS. Just explain you are learning to do things the correct way. Also let her know that cheap drills and inexperienced users can damage the nail so badly it would never recover!!!

Try searching the net to see if you can find photo's of the damage poor techs have caused. A picture often had more impact than words!!

Lot of the NSS techs that can do the one blob do make a nice Apex. The nail look great! But that is just the cover of the book so to say. Has nothing to do with how good the nail really is.

How do you know that the other salon is a, so called, NSS? Just because they use a drill and it is run by a Thai lady? I hope not. There is nothing wrong with either if the e-file is in the right hands and the Thai lady runs a good salon

The main issues I can see that should deserve the description is that MMA is used and the salon hygiene is very poor.

Apart from that, educating your clients on what YOU do and why is the most important thing and it doesn't have to be in comparison to any other salon

I mentioned thei are thai just because i know they were taught in thailand (and im sure the techniques are different) not because i feel their nationality has any bearing on their skills.

I class them as an nss because i have seen the damage caused by their nails on another friend and a few people have commented on my hygeine methods, asking why i need to bother doing things like having individual files for clients and using a sanitising spray as they've never seen it done where they normally go.

I havent been near a drill so dont know what my views on them are personally but i do know i wouldnt want to use one without training, and def not one costing £12.99 from tk max!

I am doing her nails tonight (she bit them off again! so ill also be telling her off!) I'll try to explain why I want to develop my filing skills by hand rather than explain why the nss is bad

does your friend pay full price for a new set, every time she bites the nails off?

yes!
although i only charge £15 as im still only practicing.
i'v decided to be strict even if that means i dont get as many people to practice on. because when i qualify i want people to see me as a proffesional, not a friend who can do cheap nails for them!

I have a friend who pulls her nails off too. She's never had a rebalance :irked: She pays for a new set each time but at a slightly discounted price. She did this with her last tech too, so i try not to take it personally.

But i have now refused to do a full prep on her nails and only do white tips and overlay. I remove shine and sanitise. I wont spend ages with a full careful prep and trying to make her damaged stumps look beautiful, for her to rip the enhancements and half her nail off every week.

This time round they have started lifting slightly and she has promised not to pull them off if i repair them for her.

We'll see if it lasts!!!

Nothing irks me more than someone telling me how to do my job while I am doing it! Explain to her that sure you'll get a file if she's willing to be the guinea pig that wil endure burns and disappearring nails while you learn how to use it - they are very tricky not just the sort of thing you pick up and go! Tell her to concentrate on her singing and you'll concentrate on getting better at nails at your own pace. Rushing you to get onto the next level is not helping either or your future clients. Patience grasshopper!
