Sorry it's a long one. I have a hvlp 700 and have just completed my 8th tan so fairly inexperienced. The first 5 tans were brill with the odd problems with hands now rectified so confidence was up.

However last 3 tans ..

One had dry skin and still minimal tan left from spay 2 weeks previous, she had followed correct procedure but shins were patchy

Next had not exfoliated at all and her back and chest were patchy

Final one had very patchy shins and had followed procedures but had a bath not a shower before the tan

When the last lady asked what she could do the only advice I would give was to exfoliate (now not sure this is correct) and as it happens she used lemon juice to blend it in better which worked??

My confidence has now dipped, I'm about to post out 500 flyers, I've another lady booked with dry skin on Friday and a tan party next week. Could it be my technique or the reasons above. I've also been advised by the suppliers not to take my gun apart to clean but to rinse with warm slightly soapy water and spray through the tent with this to clean.

Thanks for sticking with post if you've not given up yet and any inspiration would be wonderful:confused:

Why would your supplier tell you not to take your gun apart to clean it?
I take mine apart once a week.
Dry skin will make the tan patchy so just get them to apply a slither a moisturiser over any dry patches.
Tan not being removed before tanning again is common! People always tend to miss the backs of legs and their back.
I have quite a few clients who don't exfoliate beforehand(no matter how many times you tell them!) and the tans still come out lovely.
I do think this is down to the quality of the solution.
Which solution are you using?
You were doing well and with the 3 tans you weren't happy with, you know the reasons why so i really wouldn't let it knock your confidence

Thanks for reply, I'm using Fake Bake at the moment and this is also where I purchased my equipment from. Was quite happy up until now ...

mmmmm seems to me you have been somewhat unlucky with these three customers which are clearly now causing you confidence issues.

It is natural when starting off to let these things get on top of you and what is needed now is for you to take control of your customers....until you do this you will constantly have problems.

Be the one in control and drum home to them that you need them to participate in making the treatment you are going to be charging them £xx for...."why waste your money missus...im tanning you but you need to exfoliate and moisturise regularly otherwise were going to have tan outcome problems now aren't we missus kind of thing"

You need your customers to undertake these ongoing pre and post tan maintenance regimes otherwise...no matter how good a therapist you are....your going to have ongoing tan outcome problems.

So take control and keep drumming in maintenance regimes and all will work out in the longer term for both you ,your confidence and your customers tan outcomes.

Good luck

Good practices with before and after tan care will help eliminate a majority of the issues you are having. I use Envytan products, so I am going to refer to them in this post. Have them use an exfoliator, like Ambush, the morning of their tan. I then have them wipe down with Hide Out (a ph balancer) right before their tan. After their tan, I recommend they use a tan extender, like Body Armor. This tan extender has a small amount of DHA in it. It will help the tan last longer and fade evenly.
