Hi all!
Are there many people on here that do airbrushing?

is it essencial that you are trained or is it ok if you just practice loads.

Whats the most popular, freehand nail art or airbrushing?

I do and teach airbrushing.

I would say it is essential that you train or it is doubtful you will ever learn the techniques necessary to be a good airbrush artist. Why take the LONG rout to competence when you can learn the 'tricks of the trade' from someone who knows them already?? It seems such a silly attitude to me, not to want to invest in training.

I would say that more do free hand nail art but you will make you airbrush pay not through doing nail art with it, but by applying all colour with it and charging for it.

I also think it would be more beneficial to have proper training first, better to build upon a solid foundation of knowledge.

I was interested in airbrush training, although, last time I researched what was availible in the South Wales area, there didnt seem to be any!

Would be interested to know if anyone has been on any good training in and around this area recently?

If you go on any training, please let us know how you get on and where it was that you trained!

I do alot of airbrushing, and to be honest its what sets me apart as my "point of difference" to all the techs who only do free art.

I found that there was no way I could have offered a proffessional service, with a fee, if I had'nt had done the training.

Even a day, in basic beginnings will allow the penny to drop as far as working with transparent and opaque colours, and how they must work together.

Good luck you'll love it.

I have recently purchased the equipment I need to start airbrushing but I can't seem to find a course in my area! Could anyone recommend a course in the Essex (Colchester) area?

Or does anyone recommend one of these home courses?

Thanks for your help

I have been airbrushing since 2002 and my clients love it, I offer ALL my french in this way and if clients do not want it they can have hand painted french. I was trained by Melle at All things Nails and have never looked back, I also did some training with Sudo and bought 2 books - one on airbrushing everything and one specifically about nails by Elizabeth Anthony. I also was fortunate to be around when Gina Wallce did trade shows and got everyone inspired. Give Ken Medwell a call at the airbrush company Airbrushes, Airbrush supplies and compressors, UK or Marco Benito's website is amazing!

I hear people moaning on here all the time, my clients never ask for it, my airbrush is broken, my application doesnt last! My salon was called Airbrushed would I seriously call my salon that if it wasnt a profitable service?
I use iwata medea paints, I have millions of stencils, I use stickey base coat under and iwata spray varnish over, sealed in one coat super shiney and one Out the door and I have no problems.
I keep my airbrush clean and it is my most precious piece of equipment. I wear airbrushing as much as I can even if its just d toes(use stickey stencils to do your nails) and I have my boards where everyone can see then with elegant, simple designs and then crazy colourful designs. Elizabeth Anthony's book show you how to market your designs. I find pricing designs are good too, My french is 15 euro and that is for normal french or funky french and have a set price of 22 euro for 2 colour designs then more depending on time for anything else.
Most clients get simple flicks and swirls on 2 fingers over pink n whites, or get a blast of colour in the corner and a design in black over. At christmas and in the summer we go mad making up designs and display them.

There is a place in Essex that teaches airbrushes but you'll have to do your research - something James, ashley james maybe.

Thats loads of info if that doesnt get you excited forget it - Marco's website is just brilliant - he uses createx paints hich are harder to use as they are thicker.

PM me if you need anything else - happy airbrushing

RedAdmiral,
do you do airbrushing over top of enhancements as well? I have trouble with wear on the free edge of the nail and my airbrushed art/sealer flaking off of the enhancement. I have tried working on the sealer when shiney and removing the shine and have also tried doing my airbrushing before sealing the enhacement and then sealing the whole thing. Doesn't seem to be changing my outcome. If you could offer any advice that would be great. I am totally self taught...bought the iwata maching and use medea paints....also purchased and watched the learning dvds and my supplier told me these are all normal circumstances which I doubt or airbrushing wouldn't be so popular. There are no courses near me or I would go that route and just enroll (closest one is 18 hours of driving away) and I am the only one in my area who uses one. Thanks Tara P.S. I love my airbrush...at this point especilly for body art!!

There certainly seems to be a lack of airbrushing courses, I have also tried researching my area and nothing! But then Wales does'nt even have a trade show, we always have to travel to England and beyond. I dont mind travelling, so if anyone does know of any training withing a 250 mile radius I would be very appreciative to know where this takes place!

I'm also looking for airbrush training in the midlands if anyone knows anyone that is in my area:)

essential nails do a home based course in airbrushing. it would give you the basics.

I like Essential nails and have trained with them in tip and overlay, maintenance, nail art and airbrushing ( never finished the airbrushing )

i honestly, genuinely beleive that the airbrushing would be better taught face to face as it is a bit tricky to get to grips with I found and I generally learn quickly ;)

Geeg - can i come and stay with you for a month and teach me lots of tricks with airbrushing and nails and everything hehehe ;)

I just LOVE airbrushed nails (in fact all nail art!)

If you cant find a trainer/course in your area then I would go with Essential Nails, you get for full kit, all you need, the dvd and teaching is fantastic and it explains the ins and outs of the air gun and compressor, how to look after them and gives you the training to do the basics in order to let your imagination run wild...I trained with them, bought my course in 2003 and got a Diploma and have been airbrushing ever since

I do agree with 1-2-1/classroom tuition especially for enhancements but personally think this is EN best course as far as home learn is concerned for detail/knowledge

Most of my nail art begins with Airbrushing, if only as a base (my most popular design is in my album, the New York Skyline one, shame I don't have more pic's but there on my old dead lappy!)

As mentioned if you don't use it for actual art you can charge just for a one colour block and you can whip out a perfect french/fancy french in no time but the designs you can create are just amazing x

Isn't it amazing how different people find courses :D I found my home learn enhancements a breeze, maintenance and hand nail art the same but I struggle like mad with the airbrushing. I can't find a nice balance with the gun, it feels awkward in my hands and, despite being able to strip, clean and reassemble it perfectly, I can't paint with it at all without it being awful! :(
